Congrats to everyone accepted to NYCOM..... I just read on the NYCOM website that the curriculum is in flux for next year.

"The NYCOM curriculum is currently being reevaluated in its entirety by the faculty and a new curriculum is expected to be in place by 2005."

Does anyone know how the curriculum will be different for the class of 2009???

Gary... how would people know if the committee doesnt even know yet ?? hehehe... I have a general idea though... they are thinking of putting some of the "not so important" classes at the end of first year instead of beginning of second year... kind of classes like complementary medicine, law and ethics, health policy, etc.

One thing that is changed is that all exams will be given back to students after Janurary 05. They are also trying to put the schedule so that students will have a day off before the 1st exam of the block. They are also planning to do group learning... i've heard that is going really well so far.. well.. if anyone else from NYCOM knows more.. please add.

If I remember correctly from our first-year tour guide on interview day, their current curriculum is not organ-system based, and thus there have been complaints of overlap among classes. I'm sure there are other complaints as well, and of course many positive aspects, but the first years we met seemed excited for us that the curriculum is getting tweaked this year.

Don't worry too much. NYCOM curriculum changes every year. In the past 6 years there has not been one year that the curriculum stayed completely the same. From what I know it only gets better each year, so things to look forward to. It is always good for schools to take the initiative to constantly change rather than stay with what didn't work.

Plus the fact that they are charging $400 extra for the new Computer-Cadaver (Smart Patient) starting this year, is an indication that they are going to integrate smart patient system in to the (revised) curriculum. When I interviewed, the smart patient was still in the box (as informed by MS-II).
