Learn about NYCOM first. There isn't a secondary until you're invited to interview. 😉

Called a minute ago and as of right now they had november 4th, 5th and 10th available. Really nice lady on the phone... got 11/5.

those who got an invite, did you submit your primary application in May?

Does this data seem right?

Total admissions data 4436 applied, 540 interviewed, 523 were accepted, 295 enrolled In-state admissions data 825 applied, 469 interviewed, 454 were accepted, 254 enrolled Out-state admissions data 3611 applied, 71 interviewed, 69 were accepted, 41 enrolled
source: http://www.eduers.com/Medical/New_York/New_York_College_of_Osteopathic_Medicine.html

Looks like nearly everyone that interviews gets an offer of acceptance ?

Has anyone submitted their letters to NYCOM yet, or just their primary?

yay, i got an interview invite today.

when i called about my LOR, they said at this stage, LORs are not a factor. So you can get an invite with no LORs. They only become a factor after your interview.

I have an interview invite from NYCOM, but I haven't shadowed a DO nor MD yet (so no DO recommendation letter); however, I have only 10 days to schedule my interview. Does anyone know what I can do at this point? Do I absolutely need to get a DO recommendation(I have a hard time finding somebody to let me shadow)? Any suggestion would be great.

Yay! Interview invitation for me too! Complete ~2 weeks ago, in state.

Do you guys think we can attach extra pages to the secondary? Or just rewrite the whole thing in Word? They only give a few lines to list all of your employment since high school, and I have a lot more than that! It doesn't say one way or the other, until you get to the "Why NYCOM?" and it says to answer "in the space below." Opinions?

wow! that's like 99% acceptance rate for anyone offered an interview. It's the same data on my US news book I bought.

Got an invite today as well, scheduled for 11/11. I didn't get verified until late Aug and according to AACOMAS the primary wasn't sent to NYCOM until 9/3/09.

Does anyone know whether we should have our school to send the LORs now or after the interview?

How bad would that suck to be in the 1% that got rejected!?

I'd have to imagine it's people that royally messed up the interview or just straight up didn't show. But ya, that would be a terrible feeling.

I think most people who were rejected post-interview had no serious intention going there in the first place or did terrible during the interview or had some technical issues. From that statistics along, I am certain that for people who got interviews, as long as they did their best during the interview, they're going to be accepted. In a sense, interview=acceptance?😕

does anyone know when we are supposed to hand in the supplemental? on day of interview?

Yes when I called to schedule my interview, that's what they told me. I don't know when they're supposed to get the LORs though.

Bowlin, my advice would be to go ahead and schedule your interview now. If they're inviting you to interview, they obviously don't need that right now. Seeing as they're scheduling interviews for November, you have at least a month and a half to make something happen.

Some schools have hard and fast requirements, others are more flexible. Seeing as they're interviewing you (and that apparently an interview means they're 99% sure they want to accept you), they obviously like you for some reason. So even if you don't end up shadowing they *may* be willing to accept you without it. See what you can do to get the letter in, and if you can't get one before your interview, just ask their admissions office what you should do.

How bad would that suck to be in the 1% that got rejected!?

Haha... And I thought it would be bad to be in the 30% of interviewees that get rejected from Nova 😉 This would just be epic fail...

Has anyone OOS received an interview yet?

Nope! Curious about this myself, though...

Interview here too! I also have the same issue though, I never shadowed a DO so I dont have a letter. Do you guys think this will be a problem? I do really want to attend NYCOM.

Thanks

^^No it won't be a problem, they don't require a DO letter.

When do you guys think we will get a decision after the November interviews?

Has anyone OOS received an interview yet?

No. One student mentioned he (she?) applied early and was OOS and didn't get an invite until February. That is late...I wanted to ring in the new year with a definite plan.

The earliest interview offered is November 10? and they don't offered interviews on Mondays and Fridays? Well, I guess I won't hear anything from them until December.

obviously not all 500 accepted students will attend. some will decline nycom for another school

Lol forgot to factor that in, that's still an interesting stat, I feel more confident

For all of you guys applying hang in there. If you get a NYCOM interview you have good chance of being accepted. There interview is one of the most chilled out of any school that Interviewed at. It runs about 15 minutes. It is usually conversation. They can ask some ethical questions. Other than that it is really not bad at all.

Feel free to hit me up with questions.

What do you like most about this school? NYCOM has a pretty big incoming class, do you feel like the classes are too large? I'm more familiar with PCOM and they upload lectures (audio and video), does NYCOM do the same?

yes charm, nycom streams all of their lectures!

Hey guys. im interviewing november 17th afternoon session. when is everyone else?

Interview invite today (9/21, oos)! Really excited about this one.

interview invite today...OOS, AACOMAS released 9/3. first available date to interview wasn't until 12/1

Congratulations to all those with interview invites! Did you find out via email? I want to interview at this school so badly!!! I'm crossing my fingers...

Hi, they send you an email and you have to call to schedule an interview.
good luck!

hi all- just got my interview invite today as well! aacomas released 9-3 and oos. really excited! do you think nycom is changing their admissions policy if they're offering interviews to oos so early in comparison to last year? i don't want to get my hopes up too much...

I've also received an interview invite today. AACOMAS completed beginning of July and OOS! Hope to see some of you there.

All the OOS people who were offered interviews...what were your stats like? I applied in June...haven't heard anything yet...I have a 3.5...31MCAT and oos..lots of clinical experience too

Congrats on the interview guys. I have received my Mcat score and got a low 24 with 10phy, 8bio, 6v with 3.42 GPA and 3.1 sci. 500+ hrs in ED, along with working as a MA 30+hrs a week for 3 months. I know this might not be the right place to say it, but since I want to go NYCOM because my family and girlfriend is here in the city I don't think I would want to leave the state. Thank you just wondering if I have a possible shot as a candidate for an interview. Most of my EC is basketball. I am not in a varsity team or what not but I played in various small leagues nothing competitive and I also coach basketball. Just want to know how my appl fare against those who are interviewed or rejected thanks.

well you can check my stats on my mdapplicants link as I have been invited to interview at NYCOM.... To give you some perspective I have a buddy at another school who is also a ny resident...he got a Nov. interview at NYCOM with a 24 mcat, but he does have a 3.57 GPA and 3.5 sGPA...I think you still have a good shot, but it may be that you get a later interview... I think your strong ED experiences will def help overcome your shortcomings in MCAT...It's also dependent upon your LORs, PS, etc.. so if all those are strong than you'll be in a solid position to get an interview at as well.. The whole process is so iffy it's hard to tell for certain tho... Just my 2 cents...Being a NY resident is also a plus so Good Luck!
