For those people who have been accepted to NYCOM, does anyone know where to start looking for housing in the area? or what places students tend to live at?

I spoke to NYCOM and they said in April they would be sending something out but I wanted to start looking

Most NYCOM students live in or around Glen Cove, which is generally about 10-15 minutes away from the school. If you want to find housing, I'd search around there and the surrounding towns.

I interviewed 1/13 and received my acceptance via snail mail today! 😀 I'm from South Jersey so I guess it will depend on how far the mail has to travel. Best of luck!

Congratulations you two, and everyone else as well. I'm 99% sure that I'll be going to NYCOM - mailed my deposit about 2 days ago. Yes, an email would make more sense since some of us may need more time to come up with the deposit money. I got my snail mail a week after the letter was dated, despite my relative proximity to the school.

@xxmichoxx: I'm fairly certain you have to send in your secondary and fee to be complete, and be considered for an interview now.

i think 95% is too high, there are some people who got waitlisted on this forum. but i do think if you get an interview, you should have a good chance, since the class is like 300 kids.

I think 95% is extremely high for the acceptance rate...I have read that too, also even higher numbers like 98% acceptance. I interviewed 1/12....just waiting for a letter.

Ah, I was in the morning. Yea I know a few people posted on here that they were accepted, and they had interviewed around 1/12 as well. I can't wait for the mail to come today...if there is nothing I am probably going to call monday. I really want to go to this school, I absolutely loved it.

Ehhhh I have seen that exact same website...I am skeptical about its credibility...honestly, unless the numbers come from NYCOM itself or the AACOM...I am not really going to completely trust them

You mean DPC, right? I interviewed a couple days ago, and if I get in I'm definitely applying for it. It's PBL, and I love PBL. There's a lot of talk about it on the LECOM-Bradenton threads, so if you want to read more about it I suggest you look through those.

I don't think the stats on Eduers are reliable.
I was interviewed in December (the interview was pretty easy, IMO) but haven't heard anything from NYCOM. Should I email my interviewer to ask what's going on???

Yea I would DEFINITELY call them and see what's up. This is exactly what I am afraid is going to happen with me!

you're right, i don't think it's a completely credible source, but it is a good "idea" of the statistics of various schools. take it with a grain of salt, naturally. 😎

If you already have an interview invite, I would think its alright to just bring the secondary/check on your interview day. Call admissions to make sure, but to me either option is viable.

You can do either. I filled it out and submitted it online. When I checked in on my interview day, the secretary went through my file to make sure that I had everything. The girl in front of me brought her secondary with her, I think. Point is, it doesn't matter either way, but if I were you I'd just do it right now and submit it online.

So I had my interview at NYCOM in early November, and never heard back from them regarding my decision. Then a couple of weeks ago, I got this HCOP email from them which I pretty much ignore due to feeling that I was going to be rejected post-interview for sure. Somehow, I got a call from the Admissions Office asking me to submit my parents' and my tax info and I asked them about the interview decision in the meanwhile. They were like I would expect something after my submitted the tax info. Should I expect acceptance now that I submitted everything that they asked?

I also received that HCOP email, but I think it means those who are "accepted" will be in the med-prep program. The email stated that:

·Med Prep I – Summer pre-matriculated conditional acceptance program with a stipend.

I don't know what to make out of it. Will the HCOP acceptee will a full blown NYCOM student or a Med Prep with a conditional acceptance? Those who have dealt with this, please chime in. Thank you!

I got the same e-mail and phone call...the woman called me twice, once friday and again today. She did not sound pleased with me and asked me to submit the tax forms ASAP "so they can make a decision regarding your application". She definitely made it seem like no decision was made on me yet, and submitting these forms would allow the admissions committee to decide.

USB Stick - I do not think that is what the email meant. I got that same email. I think they are listing that as an OPTION to some HCOP applicants. It seems sort of unfair for us to not be accepted normally just because we declared ourselves economically disadvantaged.

I haven't received a phone call yet, but I think I will if I don't submit my tax papers. Might as well at this point if it seems like a decision will not be made until those papers are submitted. 😛

I meant that, applicants who have declared themselves disadvantaged MIGHT be invited to do this summer medprep program/be conditionally accepted to nycom. It seems like this is only an option for HCOP applicants, and not other applicants. But I honestly have nothing to back this up on...I am just speculating, lol. This is what it seems like it meant to me though. I would definitely fax the papers in...judging by her tone, the woman who called was fairly upset with me, lol. She was nice though. I was sort of putting it off until she told me they would not decide until the papers were in...I want a decision asap! When did you interview?

Me and bowlin123 were having a discussion on a previous thread regarding whether accepted into Med Prep is an automatic admission into NYCOM. To support my argument that being accepted into MEd-Prep is in no way translated into acceptance into NYCOM, I went on to get a letter my friend received from NYCOM...Here it is

Following review of your application, the Admissions Committee has voted to offer you the opportunity to apply to the Pre-Matriculation Educational Program "MED Prep" at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Acceptance into Mep Prep is reserved for students that the Admissions Committee feels are extremely motivated and have potential for pursuing a career in medicine, but have not successfully competed for direct acceptance to the College.

The six week program will be conducted from May 25th to July 2nd, 2010. Students who successfully complete the Med Prep Program will be considered for acceptance into the 2010 entering class.

There is no tuition requirement to attend Med Prep program. You may be eligible for a stipend from the New York State CSTEP program to cover expenses incurred. More specific information will be sent to students who apply.

Please return the enclosed form within seven days, as enrollment is limited.

No way the above suggested that you are automatically admitted into NYCOM if you are accepted into MED PREP. Rather, this is a contingent acceptance and whether you matriculate in NYCOM depends on how well you do on the MED PREP courses

...but of course, most people who attend MED-PREP since 2008 have been eventually accepted into NYCOM. According to last year stat, 24 out 25 scholars are now matriculated. The one who didn't make it dropped out since she didn't think medicine was for her. So, unless you don't study and don't really care, you would not be admitted into NYCOM. Otherwise, pretty much everyone got in!

I am just curious whether someone has been granted an interview at Drexel for this regular medical school admission cycle only to receive a letter accepting them for one of their post-bacc programs such as DPMS, IMS or MSP.

I have known someone who applied to NYCOM and received an interview invite, and only to find out later that he has been granted admission NOT into NYCOM med program but into the MED PREP. Granted, this 6-weeks MED PREP program is way better and safer than any of the above offered by Drexel insomuch that unless you are dumb, you wouldn't matriculate into med school for the cycle of which you have originally applied (24 out of 25 MED PREP students who were accepted last year are now matriculated). However, most of the ones offered by Drexel is not guaranteed and you would have to rewrite the MCAT, and spend 1 year taking classes.

I am venting here: this is suck! They should have told you upfront that what program they are interviewing you for. If you think you can muster it, you applied. Otherwise, you don't! Don't give false hopes.

This was your original post, I am saying that your friend has an option to either go to NYCOM directly or MED PREP program. He didn't all of a sudden apply to NYCOM med program and got into the MED PREP. He has to be accepted to NYCOM in order to pick MED PREP.

USB stick, this is what i think could be true as was expressed to bowlin123 on a previous thread. However, don't quote me as this is my humble opinion:

There must be a difference between accepted into NYCOM and join their HCOP program vs. MED-PREP. Yes, from that the email above, it seems that if you are accepted into NYCOM and depending on your financial circumstances, you can be admitted into the HCOP. As a HCOP scholar, you have the option to attend MED-PREP programs. However, if you are selected to attend MED-PREP, you are in no way accepted into NYCOM unless you attend their 6-week program and maintain a B-average
