Domsport...
Keep the faith, my friend. I am hoping that all of us get in... I really really hope that Dmitrinyr, monalissa, domsport, [me] all get into NYCOM....

This has been the longest wait I have had to go thru for anything.. 7 months of waiting... hopefully all the waiting leads to good news.

That's right guys! Keep the faith!!!!!!!!!!

Well, since it has been 2.5 days that anyone has posted on this thread, there probably hasn't been any movement or progress past the "accept-hold" list at nycom. I don't really feel like calling them and being an annoyance as I don't really think it will do anything. I am getting very worried now that it is less then a week from my flight to grenada. With no word from nycom, I am not even sure that they are or will in the future even go through the priority waitlist (unless they have gone into it and I am well down the line). Sometimes I get the feeling that they are taking there sweet time during this process while we are worried silly. Heck, maybe this is just the frustration talking and so I am sure that most of you share my misery. Keepin' the faith! :luck: and crossing my fingers.

Rest assurred that the second I hear anything, whether it be a phone call or mail regarding my status good or bad, this SDN forum will know. Hang tight guys. Good luck!

Fellow Waitlisters,

I called Friday as well and was fortunate enough to get hold of Dr. Schaefer himself on the phone... So... I finally got some real feedback from him.

He said that the number of declines is very similar to last year's class...So, they will use the waitlists.... There are 3 waitlist categories:

1. accept/Hold
2. Priority Waitlist
3. Regular Waitlist

Everyone on the Accept/Hold list will be accepted. Then they will determine the number of spots open. Then, calls will be made to the priority watilisters...after that... regular waitlister..

He said he has no idea how much [if all] of the priority waitlisters will be accepted. They will rank them next week after they find out about the spots open based on the declines on the accept hold..

Hold that helps... good Luck!!!

So, considering all of the responces from nycom adcom, they should have already ranked the priority waitlist people and probably should have gotten back responses as to how many of the "accept-hold" list people will be attending nycom. Therefore, it is my assumption and hope that come monday or tuesday(aug. 9-10), they will start calling the people from the priority waitlist. Still, I have made many predictions before and have been wrong the majority of the time. Just this time is basically right down to the wire for me. If I don't hear anything back from nycom by the end of monday, I will most likely call them on tuesday and ask (mind you very nicely) of any progress in the priority waitlist. Good luck and don't worry too much on the weekend, that's what the weekdays are for. 😀

Dmitri (and others hanging by a thread here),

From my acceptance letter, I was given the deadline of August 10th to have my $1,500 into NYCOM. I called them Thursday, letting them know I had received the letter and was sending the payment in...informing them that I didn't think it'd arrive by the 10th, but that it's coming. She sort of laughed and informed me that it was okay, and they'd be looking for the check.

I'm agreeing with you: Tuesday the 10th is the deadline for payments from accept-holds. I imagine they'll know by the 11th. Yes, the 11th is very well close to the breakpoint for you, but calling on the 10th might be a bit early. At this point, I've counted 5 new people on the webboards searching for rooms.. saying they were "just accepted"... that number could be misleading because not everyone accepted has posted there.

Basically, if you can't wait until the 11th, then call the 10th.. but I don't think they'll be able to tell you a whole lot that day.

I'm following this, still... hoping you guys get the "reward" you've waited on! :luck:

Thanks for the updated information Drfting Sun. So let me get this straight, is the check due by the 10th or by the end of the 10th/beginning of 11th. Either way, they will not be contacting anyone from the Priority waitlist until at least the 11th. Well then, it leaves me two whole days (I have a plane on Thursday night to Grenada). Still, it might happen that NYCOM will take 1/2 of the 11th to rank the Priority waitlist and then start calling people on Thursday the 12th. The fact is that I don't know how far down on the priority waitlist am I and how many (if any) spots are left open and need to be filled. So basically, I have no information on where I stand nor do I have any information on where the NYCOM adcom stand. All this leaves a very frustrated and nervous feeling in my mouth, especially given that the earliest that I might get a call from NYCOM is 1 day before I leave for the caribbean. Now, I will be packing my bags and getting all of the things that I need as if I was going to go to med school in grenada for good while deeply wishing that nycom would call me and tell me that they have a spot that I could fill. Even if I fly down to Grenada on thursday, I would still have until Monday (Aug. 16th) at 1 PM to hear from nycom (basically because all but a couple of thousand $ of the $22 K that I paid to St. George's is refundable as long as I don't start classes)

Given your advice Drfting Sun, I might wait until middle of the day on the 10th or late in the day to call NYCOM in order to give them enough time to collect all of the incomming checks and figure out what they will do next. Thanks for the encouragement and the info. Hope I will get to join you at nycom for the next 4 years.

I will be watching the phone next week like a hawk. Hope and prey for me 👍 👍 .

Hey dimitri,

I've been following this thread awhile and I have to say that I really hope you get in. It seems like you really want to go to NYCOM and I can't blame you because it is a good school but most important of all you wouldn't have to leave New York, where you're from.

Either way, from what I hear SGU is a good school so you're good either way. I guess Aug 16 is the real day for you then although it would save you much heart ache if it was just the 11th that you found out. Good luck either way. 👍

Thanks Sense and good luck to us all in these last couple of weeks before school starts.

Hi Gang,
I intend to have a friend of mine call on Monday for a general question on priority waitlist movement.. I will keep you all posted as I find out.

I am packing this week too...If NYCOM does'nt come thru by Friday... I basically have lost hope in getting in and moving on to another school despite the fact that I would prefer to go to NYCOM...

As promised, I am reporting back on the call to the admissions office yesterday. Basically, the Admissions office said that they are overbooked and don't know if they will use the priority waitlist this year.

Mr. Schaefer is out of the office till Monday and the committee will not meet before that.

well... that means NYCOM is out for me. Sorry to deliver the bad news.

thanks viswanad,

I am also disappointed to hear such bad news. Now, I really don't get what is going on in that admissions office. First, Schaefer said that they are having the same amount of declines as last year and so will be using the 3 types of waitlists. Therefore, assuming that they accepted the same amount as last year (which is a fair assumption), there would be need for both of the waitlists as there were last year. So, how can they possible be OVERBOOKED without going to the priority waitlist when last year they accepted ppl of the regular waitlist. I can't stand all of this playing with our emotions and plans. The nycom admissions office takes their precious time and gives us vague plans and dates of when something will happen. Then, as two weeks ago, Schaefer tells us that it might be like last year and I get all excited and start counting the days. Now, it has been proven to be false hope. I really don't get it. Well, I guess it is off to Grenada for me. Good luck to all of you guys.

I called nycom today, just to get an update. Well, the have managed to amaze me once again. It is a week and a half before orientation and the dean of admissions is on a week-long vacation. VACATION!!!! 😱 😱 Are you kidding me?? They say that the class is overbooked and that they don't know if they will be even going into the priority waitlist (ps: they haven't even ranked the priority waitlist yet) because they exhausted the "accept-hold" list and overbooked the class. Personally, it doesn't matter if the class is full or not, I don't understand how the dean of admissions can go on vacation this close to the start of the next term. What if a significant number of people from the next class decide to drop and go to another school, then how do admission decisions (like ranking the waitlist) get made witout him. I just don't get it. I guess I as well as many of you on this forum who are on a waitlist in nycom were unlucky enough to apply during the year in which not enough people declined their spot at nycom or when nycom had too many competitive applicants and so accepted more of them then they usually do. I still very much want to go to nycom, I think it is a great school, has a good environment and good people. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe all of this is just my way of venting until I can go on. Well now, I am a bit sadned by the fact that I will have to go to the caribbean instead of nycom, but I know that when I start med school next week I will get settled, accept the cards that are dealt to me and go on and succeed. Good luck to all, wherever you end up. Just keep on looking ahead. :luck:
