  1. Pre-Health (Field Undecided)
I was thinking about applying to NYCPM but my gpa is really low - around a 2.4 (I had some rough semesters) but I was able to retake classes like biochem, organic chem and get A's in those. Would a high MCAT score of 35, shadowing experience, volunteering, community service, and research... help to kind of balance it out? :scared: or should I ask to enroll into the summer pre-matriculation program and then re-apply for the spring of 2011?

Is the 2.4 your science GPA or your overall GPA? Either way, perhaps taking another year of courses will boost up your GPA a bit...

If you are close to NYC take a short trip to the school after scheduling a school tour. During the tour, ask the admissions office for advice. They will be able to tell you if you can get in and if not, they will tell you the best way to improve your package.

You can get in with much less than a 35 at NYCPM. I say this because I know someone who was accepted on conditional basis with similar stats to yours. They just had to take their mini course load and receive at least B's in all classes. I think it's like 3 weeks of classes or something. Not too sure on that part. All you have to do is get your foot in the door, then just study hard! GL!

I was wondering, has anyone been rejected from nycpm?
What is their acceptance rate?
How soon after your file is complete, will they call you in for an interview?
Are there people who don't get called in for an interview?

Sorry for all the questions, hopefully someone can answer these for me soon!!!!!

hell yea ppl have been rejected; this isnt chiro school:laugh:. well its late in the game so its def more competitive. if they want to interview you then u will hear from them almost immediately. typically most schools admittance averages around 50% rate give or take for some programs having larger/smaller classes. [for instance temple accepted 218 from 547 applicants in '08]. to summarize, an interview is a VERY good sign ull get accepted. just dont say u have a foot fetish in ur interview.

True, but one must also realize that not all 547 went to the temple interview. It would be interesting to see how many were invited to an interview, and how many were accepted post interview. I would imagine a pretty high percentage, and this goes for a lot of schools (accepting post interview)

its in their packet they send out when u get an interview offer. it has a blue cover sheet.

"For our most recent class, we had 547 applications for 100 seats. Of those applying 268 were interviewed, and 218 were accepted."

then it goes on to say:

"The mean total GPA for the Class of 2012 was 3.3 with a mean science GPA of 3.15 and the mean cumulative MCAT score was 23. [GRE=1160;DAT=18.1]"

AVG acceptance rate for pod schools is 80% dude. I dunno where you get your info from but I'm sorry to inform you its FALSE.....so back to the poster yea people do get rejected but not like allo and osteo school, I would say maybe because you didn't complete your pre-reqs or not doing the MCAT or DAT. another rejection maybe because of a 2.6 GPA and 17 or 18 MCAT. It all depends, some of my friends got rejected because of their stats.

Okay, I am trying to figure out if I should go to the interview. I'm already accepted to OCPM but then I started thinking about NYCPM. I hope those who went to the interviews can pull out valid information and help me answer my questions.

First, what kind of scholarships do they offer? For example, OCPM gives 5K for the first year for having a 3.5 undergrad GPA and 10K (3.7 GPA). Is there anything like that from NYCPM?

Second, what is the student budget given by NYCPM Financial Dept? For example, OCPM says the total cost of attendance is 53,967/yr which includes:
Tuition (27,250)
Fees like health, lab, and registration services (1,370)
Living allowances:
books & supplies (1,420)
instruments (812)
housing (7,700)
food (4,075)
transportation & travel (4,729)
trailing summer semester (3,600)
personal (3,000)

Third, does anyone have an idea of what time the last class of the day is? My main concern is getting home not too late.

Thank you.

All of ur questions can be directed to the nycpm website.

1. http://nycpm.edu/scholarships.asp
you need to maintain a 3.2gpa and it cant drop below it for 2 consec semesters for all scholarships. NOTE: their scholarships are payable OVER 4 YEARS!!! so lets say they offer you a 10k scholarship, then u get 2500 towards tuition each year. major 👎.

2. http://www.nycpm.edu/studentsFaculty/0809.pdf
nycpm is def one of the cheaper schools w/ 23k tuition

3. Home?! i hope ny isnt too far away.
for the link... go to the students tab and go to academic calendar.

I'm situation is the total reverse of yours. I was accepted to NYCPM and postponed my interview with OCPM to think things through. Take a look at NYCPM's 2009-2010 Catalog. It is very comprehensive and if you still have further questions, you could definitely call someone at the school. PM me if you cannot download it from their website. I also suggest you call Eve Traube (212)410-8006. She is the Director of Financial Aid and is very knowledgeable...I'm sure she could answer any questions you may have.

Classes are typically 8-4pm with an hour lunch from 12-1pm. I heard from a student representative that many students spend extra time in labs, particularly anatomy. She as well as admissions office representatives have said that a few students commute from NJ, so I would assume that one would have the option of getting home at a decent hour.

P.S. There is no "food allowance" at NYCPM. The cafeteria isn't all that great and a lot of students bring their own lunch.

Hmm, my concern for going home was pretty much what time students finish their day at school. Shava9865 mentioned 8-4pm is when class is in session, so I have the general idea.

Thanks for the links and the info.

By the way Shava, what is the reason you are weighing between OCPM and NYCPM? You do get food allowance at OCPM, but I heard from the students there that the food isn't great, either.

Well the pod I shadowed is an alumni from OCPM and he spoke so highly of how technologically advanced the school is. I want to get an idea of what he's talking about. I'd also consider OCPM simply because the cost of living is much less than NY. I also like the fact that OCPM has a lot of Case Western faculty. I'm very interested in doing research as well.

For me, the doctor I shadowed went to NYCPM which he spoke highly of. I went to OCPM and saw the facilities. I have to say the school is great in technological advancement. Only thing I was worried about the clinicals. I read from other threads on this forum that there isn't as many unusual cases like they get in NY. If anyone disagree, please inform me. It's just an assumption from what I have read.
