Hello all! I am currently stuck between two options for DO school and have been going back and forth on them for a while. I am the first in my family to go to medical school and have very few individuals to discuss the importance of the strengths of each school, so I do not really know how much of an impact each pro and con can have when it is time for me to apply to residency. Please share any advice or insight you have!
Northeast resident, unsure of future residency but going between EM, surgery, or neuro.

VCOM-VA

Any input is welcome! Thank you!

NYITCOM
Pros
- Close to home, won't need an apartment for the first year.
- Well-established in the area
- P/F pre-clinical courses
- Family/friend supports close-by
- 91.5% COMLEX Level 1 pass rate
- 99% match rate (may be skewed because they combine stats with the smaller Alabama campus)
Cons
- More expensive
- Online pre-clinical lectures! (still not sure how I feel about this)
- Large class size (300-400)
VCOM-VA
Pros
- Less expensive
- 97% initial match rate, 99.6% final residency placement
- 99% COMLEX Level 1 first attempt pass rate
- Dedicated COMLEX review courses
- In-person, mandatory lectures (could be a pro or could be a con, not sure)
- Smaller class size (~150)
- Far from home/family
- Letter grade system for pre-clinical
- Seems to have a heavy focus on rural medicine and primary care
- Residency placements all over the East coast, but heavy focus on southern states and I do not want to commit to staying in the south yet
Any input is welcome! Thank you!
