NYMC Acceptance Letters

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed the first day NYMC started interviewing and we were told that we would not here until around Dec. 15th. Within the next week some news should be coming.

anyone willing to call nymc to check on the status? i called on friday and they kept avoiding any exact dates...argghhh.. the stupid 10-12 weeks line.

Who told you Dec 2nd?

My best friend just heard today that he was accepted to NYMC. So I guess it has begun. Good luck everyone.

Called my parents' house (my AMCAS permanent address) yesterday and--lo and behold--I got a big fat acceptance envelope from NYMC  ...so, anyone who's curious as to why they haven't heard, call your parents! Oh, and yes I can verify that their website is NOT up to date. 😡

Got my big fat acceptance envelope today as well! definitely call your parents though, that's where mine was sent...

thanks! my parents are on long island, so its not very far at all (bout a 40 minute car ride), so i can't imagine the mail took a long time to get there. i'd give it a few more days to get to the west coast...

Mine live in a suburb of Boston, so the mail system is working! 😉

when did ya'll interview? I was there on oct 31st and my parents are on long island, yet no word! hopefully some good news will come within the next few days (or maybe even today!)

I was there Oct. 15, so hopefully yours will come soon!!

Ugh...my parents live in the heart of redneck Bakersfield, CA. That's about a 3 hour drive for me from So Cal. I have a feeling my parents would call me up ASAP after opening my mail (they always do that). I interviewed 11/6, which means that I should probably be hearing from them in January?

did you guys like nymc?

although it's kinda in the middle of nowhere relative to the nyc schools, the facilities were great, dorms were pretty new/clean, and i had a good time.

nymc is 10-12 weeks from date of interview, they have rolling admissions

another waitlist....argghhhhhhhh. man, this is like my 6th or 7th...too many to count. anyways, californians should be expecting it in the mail soon (i'm from oc).

it was pretty nice there, the new facilities they just built are awesome. and you can do your clinical years in NYC, and the city is always like 25 minutes away. but, as for the things i didn't like, the school is really expensive, and they are known for working their students really hard the first two years (although they have a near 100% passing rate on the USMLE)

Anyone else hear from NYMC lately that interviewed in late October (~October 22)?? They called me in November to send my transcript to them from this semester (I'm in a graduate program) so I wonder if they are waiting for that before they make a decision...any thoughts? Thanks!

waitlist letter...interviewed early october.

i'm going to decline the offer to be put on their waitlist, so that'll open up a spot for someone.

g'luck!

I think the big draw for me re; NYMC was the fact that you could take the train into NYC. I liked the campus (I grew up in the suburbs so the area kinda appealed)...however, I couldn't justify going there once I got into one of my state schools.

Still, I think I'll always be fond of NYMC for giving me my first acceptance letter! 😍

i am from CA and i had a quick question b/c i am trying to find the best way to go to nymc. I have an interview at albert einstein on Jan 13 (mon) and the next day at nymc...what is the best way to get there? is it better to rent a car or take a train. if i take a train do they go out at all hours or are they rare??? any feedback would be great and iw ould really appreciate it!

i'm sure others can better advise you on the train situation, but from everything i know the train seems like a fine option.

trains in ny run very frequently, even the ones up to valhalla. look on the metro north website for trains to valhalla, north white plains, or tarrytown (the stations close to nymc) from grand central. you can take either the hudson or harlem line i think. one of them goes to tarrytown, the other goes to valhalla/north wp.

i rented a car for my nymc interview, but i don't think i'd want to drive all the way from einstein to nymc if i didn't know my way around, especially since it could snow. of course, it really depends on how comfortable you are with driving in strange places. renting a car if you're under 25 can be expensive. in general, i found renting a car in the ny area to be WAY more expensive than in some other locations i looked up. i ended up getting one for something like $38/day (i'm over 25) through orbitz. none of my bids for $30-$35 were accepted on priceline.

renting a car might be best option if time is a concern. basicaly, it'll cost you like $25 RT to get from airport on the grand central train station using one of the shuttle services (super shuttle) ~1hr. from grand central, it'll take like 1.5 hrs to get to einstein on subway/bus transfer at $4/day. to get to nymc, it'll take like 45 minute metro north ($12 RT) and another 15 minutes taxi ($25 RT). look up one of previous threads on getting to nyc schools instructions.

any work from NYMC lately? I interviewed oct 31, so this week will be my 8 week mark.....

i did the car rental biz...to tell you the truth it sucked b/c i got lost sooo many times finding my way around. and i hear you don't want to get lost in the bronx..for einstein and it was hard to find nymc.

if you do get lost in the bronx make sure you wear a yankee's cap. and always carry a mets cap just incase you get lost in flushing.

its better if you use public transportation i think

I LOVED the school too. Until I recently visited JMC, it was my first choice school (now, i'm kinda torn). Maybe it was the beautiful fall foliage that swayed me, but the school is beautiful and the students are friendly. Also, it is a school that is known to tailor their exams for preparation for the USMLE. If you've visited the anatomy lab, it speaks for itself.

The main issue w/ me is whether or not I would be happy in a quiet suburb (able to study but bored) or in a bumpin city w/ lots to do (possible distraction but lots to do to relax/stay sane).
