NYMC vs. MCW vs. WVU

Just wondering what you all think? Rank based on whatever you want.

I think I will be happiest at MCW but i just wanted to see what most thought thanks.

I interviewed at both NYMC and MCW. I liked MCW much better. I guess it depends where you want to do your residency. the east coast has some good places and so does the midwest. MCW 2007's residency match list is better than NYMC I think. As for WVU, I have no clue what to tell you. One of my friends had an interview there and he said he didn't like it at all. he said the airport was the size of his living room. plus i wouldn't think that wvu has a good residency match list. but hey, medical school is medical school.

I really don't know much about these schools, but I had a friend who went to NYMC and he loved it. Do you have the SDN Admissions Guide? It's full of quotes from people at MCW going on and on about how great it is there. Seems to be very friendly and relaxed.

All three are fine schools. "NYMC vs. MCW" threads are quite frequent, and it seems about 50/50, which is probably what you will get from people in this one. I am not personally sure about WV but I have heard good things about it as well. Try to pick the school based on how you feel at each one, but it seams like you are already partial to MCW.

As far as mcw goes, I was very impressed with the regional reputation of mcw/froedtert. It seemed like that was the main hospital to go to and the people in milwaukee seemed to have a good impression of it. Also liked how it is part of a whole scientific area, with research, 2 hospitals, teaching etc. I have a friend at nymc and he said it was "ok" so i don't know. I liked mcw

I would recommend going to the school at which you think you would be happiest -- I say that for any school.

I was getting ready to turn down my state school in order to reapply to MCW the year after I initially applied because I knew I wouldn't be happy at my state school. I didn't want to be miserable for 4 years of med school after being miserable for 3/5 years of undergrad.

The stuff you learn at each school will basically be the same, so that shouldn't make a difference, but the way in which it's presented, the city, the student body, etc, could.

I would advise against looking at the Milwaukee weather right now though.

What things do you love about MCW?

I'd go to MCW over Nymc...good match.

Thanks for the responses i just noticed that people had answered to the thread today. hahaha.

I think doing a residency on the east coast would be awesome cause i love big cities like NYC or boston...however i was most impressed at my interview by mcw. The students just seemed so happy there the only thing i am worried about is how it is a school only for medical students. I would like other health professions such as dental, pharmacy etc. so i could meet more people outside my class.

I just got a horrible feeling about NYMC at the interview day (i don't know why) but I know it is a pretty good school (and you can move to nyc 3rd and 4th year and it has very good rotations) thats why i feel like i should still consider it.

and i feel i should consider wvu because it is a lot like my undergrad school in the fact that it is a big state school- lots of undergrads, many grad programs, big sports school. And I love my undergrad.

One of my good friends is doing ortho in NY. It wasn't his first choice program, but he's from the West Coast and wanted to go back there. I have another friend doing neuro in NY too.

Just because you go to med school in the Midwest doesn't mean you're doomed to stay here. I plan on applying all over the country.
