I just got a NYMC deferral request granted today. That should open up a spot for class of 2012. Good luck guys.

Are the generally pretty open to deferrals? Did you just have to submit a request or was it a lengthy application?
 
I just called and asked

Q: "are you still accepting people off the waitlist?"
A: yes, we are. we accept people until the beginning of august.

Q: um...are there any spots available at this point for admission?
A: no, not at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm convinced if you call NYMC 10 times you'd get a different answer each time. I called today and they said the waitlist was moving, but i've yet to see any indication from anyone here. Others have posted that they have stated that it won't move until June. Plus, a position was just vacated, so spots are obviously opening up. NYMCs waitlist has moved a lot in recent years, dont think theres a reason that it wont this year. NYMC is just late getting started.
 
i was also just granted my request to defer - one more open spot for the incoming class!

i never knew i loved deferrals this much until what i saw on this thread today 👍

I emailed them a request maybe 2 weeks ago. It wasn't lengthy - maybe 2/3 of a page single spaced. They sent me an email this morning saying that the request was granted. If you want more info feel free to pm me.
 
1. What day does the committee meet? I just got my semester grades and they were great. I want them to see the grades and summer activities ASAP, but I am worried that I will miss this week's meeting.


2. I never received an e-mail acknowledging I was, indeed, placed on the waitlist. I overnighted the waitlist placement card. When I called the secretary just said, "Oh yeah you were filed. Don't worry about getting an e-mail because you are on the waitlist." However, this does worry me.

Okay, I called them and here's an update:

The committee is meeting twice a week and still deciding on applicants who interviewed. That makes sense since I haven't seen anything on SDN suggesting that there's been waitlist movement. After all, they were still interviewing just 3 weeks ago.

The gentleman at admissions can talk very fast at times (hey, it's New York) but I've found him to always be very helpful. I don't understand why people on SDN say that they are rude over at NYMC admissions. Then again, I'm a native New Yorker and I know how to tawk da tawk.

just kidding, i guess the waitlist already is moving. maybe my letter is in the mail and hasn't reached me yet.
 
What kind of bull**** is this? I just spoke to admissions today and they hadn't decided on me! ARGHHHH!!!!! Now I'm losing my cool.

I'd imagine that more than one person answers the phone down there, so you must have had the pleasure of having a nice man do so. Obviously I can't speak for others who shared a similar negative experience on the phone, but I personally spoke to a woman who was rude and not particularly helpful.
 
Just wanted to put a positive note out there: I'm in the Georgetown SMP, and I know for a fact that about 10 or so students from my class were accepted to NYMC, and at least 2-3 of those people were also recently accepted to Georgetown Med. The Georgetown Med accepts will most likely take G-town in favor of NYMC. There are also people with accepts to NYMC and waitlists at G-town who will take G-town if they get off WL, so this should free up a few NY spots.

I interviewed 5/5 and was accepted late (5/14) so I was given some more time to make a decision. I withdrew today to attend a different school. Hope the spot goes to one of you guys!
 
For all you guys still on the waitlist, if NYMC is your number one choice then write them a letter of intent. If not at least update them or write a letter of interest. NYMC gets a ton of applications b/c a lot of people apply to it as a safety school. Letters are a good way (particularly for NYMC) to get noticed and separate yourself as a serious applicant.

Hey I know this may seem like a daft question but can anyone please tell me what and how to write a Letter of Intent and Letter of Interest

It's easy you just restate your interest in the school and your intent to attend if offered a place in the class, give some examples why you're interested/it's your first choice and volia!
 
Sorry for the lateness, but I too was accepted off the waitlist on 5/28/08 and I interviewed mid-January. I sent in an update/letter of interest few weeks post-interview. Good luck!
