I am confused about NYU's admissions requirements. On the ADEA Guide to Dental schools and various internet sources, I've hear they require 100 hours of shadowing. My first question is, does the 100 hours have to be completed at the time of submitting the application?

Also, I've been looking at the NYUCD website where it specifies the number of required shadowing hours and can't find it. According to this page, the minimum requirements are the pre-req courses, degree, DAT, LOR, etc. but it doesn't mention shadowing.

One other thing: is there a minimum GPA requirement for admission now? According to this page, it says a minimum of a 3.5 GPA is required for consideration! Is this true? I've heard that a lot of people got in with GPAs lower than 3.5. Is this requirement new for the 2014 cycle?

I had 50 hours and while my interviewer commented it was low, I was accepted a week and a half later.

Just checked the website and the 3.5 deal said that was the minimum to be considered if you're deciding to apply with 90 hours but without a bachelors degree. They definitely accept students below.

...I looked at the nyucd page you posted...I don't remember reading this last year @_@;;;

WHEW that makes a lot more sense. I think my eyes zoomed in on the 3.5 GPA when I was reading that requirement.

If you got accepted with 50 hours, then where does the 100 hr figure come from? I wonder...

it's probably just people talking

Don't know, I never read that or I probably woudn't have applied in the first place. :laugh:

I didn't use the ADEA guide, just looked at the website for various schools requirements to make sure I wasn't wasting my application money.

How'd you do on the DAT RC btw?

Either a 20 or a 21. Don't remember tbh. 21AA though.

When I was applying last year, either the admissions requirement page or the secondary application specifically said they strongly prefer/recommend (not required) applicants with minimum of 100 hours of pre-dental/clinical experiences.
