I was wondering why NYU is not such a good school. I was some stats and the scores are somwhat lower than I expected BUT the Tuition is HUGE.

Does anybody have any info on NYU?

And StoneyBrook.

Please advise

:scared:

NYU is a good school. It has good facilities and faculty. But they do have an unusually large class size, and hence it is "easier" than other schools to gain entrance.

Stonybrook is a school that is very different from NYU. It has a smaller class size (less than 40, compared to NYU's 200+), and it's located in a rural/surburban neighborhood, about 50 miles east of NYC. It's a public school, so it has a cheaper tuition for in-state students, and it also accepts students primarily from New York, unlike NYU. It has a good reputation, but I personally think the school deserves serious consideration only from in-state applicants.

This is though the grape vine stuff....

Before anyone bashes me.... Let this be said... I applied to NYU and if that is where I get in, you are DAMN right I will go there.

Several dentists I have spoken with speek poorly of NYU becuase the dentists from the school produce bad work. I personally have assited on several patients from NY in which we had to re-do some fillings and crowns... The fillings we re-did still had decay in them.

But, with all that being said, you can go to NYU and be the greatest dentist in the world. As many have said... The "real" learning begins when you start practicing.

How can you afford NYU - am i missing something?
please help me understand- 🙂

I'm applying to 11 schools all around the country, including NYU and Stonybrook. However, I'm a New York resident. Stonybrook accepts precious little amount of people outside New York (in last year's class, only 3 out of 39 students were out of state according to ADEA publication). Even if you have stellar credentials, if you're not a New York resident, it's VERY unlikely that you'll find acceptance from Stony.

Yes, NYU is EXPENSIVE, along with the astronomical cost of living in Manhattan (esp. the NYU neighborhood). However, most people take out loans to pay for tuition and living expenses. Otherwise, attending dental school would not be possible for 99% of the students due to the financial burden.

If you are not from NY Stony Brook is near impossible to get in to. The class is around 35 people and according to the ADEA book I have from few years ago out of the 38 enrolled students....38 where from NY.

My neighbor went to NYU and said he lived about 45 minutes (via train) in Conn. or some neighboring state and it saved him gihugant amounts of cash. If you do your research, NYU is only a few 10K's higher than other private schools. Plus...best of all...YOU CAN WATCH THE YANKEES WHENEVER YOU WANT!!!!
