Anyone know the GPA avg for NYU?

On the website it list GPA AVG: 3.0 (min.)....
That's pretty high for min. requirement compared to all the other dental schools...I take it that the GPA avg for NYU must be around 3.5?

Is NYU more of a GPA or a DAT school? or both?

any info would help... thanks..

According to Amy Knowles, more of a DAT school. She told me my class (2006) had an average of 18.2 on the DATs. Not sure if that was academic or PAT though

M--

First of all i know several people who had under a 3.0 and got into NYU with average DAT/PAT scores. Here are the stats for those 2 (that shared their stats with me).

Applicant 1- 2.78 gpa, 2.65 science gpa, DAT 18, PAT 16
Applicant 2- 2.95 gpa, 3.1 science gpa, DAT 17, PAT 18

I know others who with 3.3 and 18/16 applied and got in too, but I haven't met anyone who (if applied and interviewed early) didn't get into NYU.

I think as far as NYU goes, they are liberal with gpa's (nothing obscenely low) and so long all the DAT scores are over 15 you will be considered. I wouldn't say the average GPA for NYU is a 3.5....thats too high. So long you have solid gpa and scores your chances are good. If either is low, hopefully the other is higher to balance it out.

all the best.

I pretty much heard NYU is everyone's safety school. I'm not going to mock it because I might go there. But I don't think you have to worry about NYU being tough on admissions. They generally over admit students and then weed out about 30 students by the end of first year. It's one of those schools that will give you an opportunity but then you must prove yourself once you are in. Therefore the challenge is not in admissions but the school itself. Some will argue that NYU is not more difficult than any other dental school but that they admit students who shouldn't have been given admission in the first place. Others will argue that the school itself tries to weed out students after first year. They argue that they admit over 200 students to earn extra money while weeding them out prior to second year because they lack the facilities to train all 200+ students.
