NYU College of Dentistry Class of 2029 Interview/Acceptance Thread

this is a very hot take
Hi! Did you graduate from NYU? What was it like to pursue OMFS at NYU if you did? Would you choose another school if you had the opportunity to do so?

This is how I structured my letter of intent!

1: Dear Admissions Committee,
2: Introduction; purpose and excitement
3: Body paragraph; fit and updates
4: Closing paragraph; reaffirmation and gratitude
5: formal closing; "sincerely" "respectfully"
Thanks

Thanks boss, I'll send mine out at an ungodly hour in the night as well so they know all I am thinking about is NYU.

Did anyone else get a NYU Dentistry: Wait List Update Request? I sent my letter of intent at like 3 AM on Monday and got this later on the same day.

I was accepted today at 4:46 pm. Thank you to all that have helped. In my waitlist update request I just flexed how much money I had and that my deposit was ready to go; try it out if you can.

Please let me know if anyone else got off the waitlist today!! this is huge

Anyone know how long it takes back to hear after candidate day at this point in the cycle? TIA!

giving up on my hope for a candidate day interview at this point tbh, I have reached out to them numerous times and no response 🙁 Prepping for next cycle though!

Excellent news! Now is prime time to get off the waitlist, now is really the time where they take off, you need to email and call, show interest, and make it known that you will attend and give the deposit in right away

There’s no way it’s 100 seats left. Not everyone who got accepted joins GroupMe. There’s probably very little movements left from people who get off late waitlist in other schools.

A lot of over qualified candidates this year making it the most competitive cycle to date. Achieving stats enough for NYU in past cycles don’t cut it anymore for this cycle. Sad truth.

This is true and not true. I know a lot of candidates with 18 AA 17 TS getting accepted. I know 4. Please do not give up, if they can do it, so can you. You guys need to keep emailing at least once a week, showing genuine interest- not just writing copy paste emails. I used to work in admissions and I know what they want and expect. You guys need to push and push

Accepted 11am today from the waitlist (was placed on it on March 6)! Keep emailing them with updates,

This isnt true. If you check official ADEA report, no one with below 19AA was accepted to NYU. Maybe 5 years ago. If you have 19AA and 3.3 ish GPA and you are a minority, you have a chance. I know 4 who are black and hispanic and got in with 19AA

that's what i thought but there are a lot of D2, D3 and D4 students in class of 2029 group me and total is around 290 ish now. You have to subtract those D2, D3, D4 students. So maybe like you said it might not be 100 seats since there will be people who didnt join group me. but I think there are still some seats there

FYI I am an admitted student and I am not on Groupme. I have my own group (based on ethnicity) which has about 42 class of 2029. None of them is on Group me but half of them are on FB

that's interesting. I also noticed in fb a lot of students also have D2, D3, and D4 so one thing for sure is that I am pretty sure there are still some seats left. The reason I know NYU will do more interview is because I am geting HPSP and notified NYU about it. They told me they plan to have couple more interviews in May anyway so that they can invite me for candidate day (I didnt get any candidate day invite yet from nyu. I am currently also in Army and my army dentist notified NYU about my HPSP)

This is absolutely true. I know 4 people with those grades, and they have gotten accepted. Granted they had near 4.0 GPA's. but one had 18 AA 17 TS.

Listen to this dude he got me off 2 waitlists in the span of a week (April 24-30th, I applied in November) by telling the admissions committee about how much money you have and that you can pay for everything. NYU is known to try and fail students to get them to remediate (and thus pay another 100k+), so they care about money and if you are willing to spend on their program. Idk if you need multiple weekly letters, though, since I only sent 1 to each school.

What you mean money for everything, isn't it just the deposit we have to pay for?

Yes, but the admissions committees (I assume) want to see that you fully understand the financial commitment of dental school, which includes everything, not just the deposit. I think the best thing for me was the "NYU Dentistry: Wait List Update Request" that was sent on April 22nd, where they ask for any logistical issues for NYU. I said finding housing in NYC was no problem even on short notice, and that money was no issue. If this is not true for you and you get off the waitlist, then it's a good problem to have.
