I would like to ask those who deferred acceptance from NYU for one year as to what you needed to do. Did you fill out any forms or send deposit besides the first and second deposits ($500 and $2000)? Does the school send out the information about deferral to all of those who are accepted?

Also, did anyone who deferred acceptance also deferred graduation from undergrad? The letter says that the acceptance is contingent upon graduation by Aug 2006, but this does not apply to those who defer their spot, is this correct? Although credit-wise I could graduate, I would rather spend the gap year taking more upper year courses. To do so at my school, I have to remain officially registered as an undergrad student. So I would like to know if anyone could defer graduation and still hold your spot at NYU.

Somehow the mails from NYU arrive very slow. I got this letter dated on Feb 22 today (March 21st), stating that I have to send the deposit by March 8th. Every time I call the school, I am "transferred" to some answering machine. I do not want to miss any more deadlines, so I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what you needed to do to defer your spot at NYU. Thanks in advance.

i think this thread was directed towards me. here is my experience:

i dont remember filling out any forms.

yes you ahve to pay the $2500 which will go to your first payments for the following year.

i dont know if they send out the deferral info to everyone. they told me the info over the phone.

i have no idea about graduating or not becase when i got called i had already graduated (i got in the first week on august, a week before school started)

all i did was write a short letter stating why i wanted to defer and if it was possible and thanks and blah blah blah u know.

remember, just becuase u want to defer doesnt mean you will get approved

YOU HAVE TO GET APPROVED!

so think of a good reason to defer and write away and sign that check then RELAX!

it was nice going through this second admissions process with a back up plan. it allowed me to do things like what im doing now (living in germany and doing oral surgery with two german dentists/surgeons)

good luck
