Sooo.....

I just heard a rumor from an NYU dental alumni himself. That "NYU will decrease its student size in the first two years (i.e. purposely failing them, or by other extravagant means) to maximize their profits."

This does NOT sit well with me. I consider them among my top choices for applying this year, and I am no rich kid. Please tell me this isn't the case.

How does the school make money from empty seats?

my thoughts exactly. Plus, why would a school want to fail students? That would make the school look bad and less appealing, ergo decreasing profits even more. Seems very misinformed.

I also heard you might be on the waitlist at NYU.

i've also heard from a legitimate source that at night, little underpants gnomes take your underwear from your underwear drawer.

Dude read the stuff NYU's dean has written concerning dental education. Not a single word makes him out to be a fast-talking business swindler. He has very high and noble standards and he certainly does not appear to be someone who is driven by profiteering off of dental students. He's also a very prominent and well-regarded clinician, educator, oral surgeon, and an incredibly pleasant human being.

When he was the dean at UCSF, he regularly baked and brought homemade bread for his students.

I heard the same thing as what OP said. lol hence the "lower" gpa/dat requirement.

There's a difference between a school forcibly failing students and students just flunking out. NYU will monitor your academic performance in order to offer you academic guidance and assistance if need be. If you haven't fixed your problem after multiple academic offenses/failures, you will be in deep trouble.

stop chasing the leprachaun @op

op if you believe that rumor is true you might have autism and downsyndrome

Well, despite the non-constructive criticism here, I am not on the waitlist (have not yet applied...-.-) nor do I have Down syndrome or autism. It was a legitimate question and yes, I should have done more research on my part, but having heard that from an actual NYU dental alumni is what made me restless. If I had heard it from somewhere/anywhere else, I would have dismissed it completely.
