Hey,
For those who received an NYU interview. How long after completion did you hear? What are the dates of your interviews? Do you think calling to ask about your status is a bad thing to do? I know they discourage it, but I am getting antsy!
Thanks!

Hi DE12MD,

I was complete at NYU on 8/21 and received an e-mail yesterday about an interview invite. My interview is scheduled for 9/27. They didn't give much time to prepare!! It seems as if NYU has a "Don't call us, we'll call you" type of policy. I'm not sure if it would be a great idea to contact them. Good luck though! It seems as if you're doing very well in the process anyway. I wouldn't worry.

here's a question: I was complete on 8/22--I haven't heard from them but I have two other interviews in NYC in the next three weeks, and one at Brown in Providence (NYC is fairly near to providence in terms of travel from my home). Should I email NYU and ask them about the possibility of an interview because I will be in the area? Travel to NYC is not easy for me and I'd really like to do these all at once.... What do you all think?

I think it's worth a try...

One of the schools in NYC encourages you to do that but it might be Cornell. I can't remember.

I didn't get my NYU interview invite for months last year. I was complete mid-September I think, and didn't hear from them until the end of October. Not what you want to hear I'm sure, but sometimes invites just don't go out for a long time, at NYU and at lots of other places. Best of luck though!

ive been complete since july and I havent gotten crap... i guess that means its the "R"

Good luck for those that got the interview. After being here at NYU for a little over a month, I can tell you it is without a doubt one of the best medical schools you can attend.

Do you remember when you were complete and then when you got your interview invite?

Umm from what I can recall I was complete sometime in late august/early september and then was given an option of interview date late september (and chose to have mine in october). We started interviews at the school this week for normal apps, and I think a week prior for md/phds. Student Council has been working to make the interviews much better than years prior, so should be a good experience. Good luck.

I was complete at NYU on 7/20 and got an invite about 2 weeks ago.

Do you get an e-mail notifying you when your app is complete?

Is NYU known for being slow with interview invites? Does anyone know? I was just wondering. Also, where is this status page that you mentioned? I thought they just reply to you when you are complete.

::hoping that my app was given to a slow reviewer::

Which other medical schools have you attended for an entire month that would enable you to be so sure?

They seem to respond back a month after completion.

No status page. They e-mail you when your app is complete.

if you dont mind sharing - - what are your stats?

NYU has had my secondary, LORs, and payment since the end of August and I have no 'complete' email... should I be worried? I suppose I can't even call to ask...

do you all think this is a problem, or that i should just wait it out?

If it's been 4 weeks and you think they should have everything, and you have not received a "file complete" email, you should probably contact them to make sure they actually received everything. I got my "file complete" email on August 25, approximately 1 week after they received my letters. Have not heard anything since then, but at least I know my file is complete.

I submitted everything really early like mid july and didn't get a complete mail for about a month or more. I don't think it will hurt to call, but I doubt that they will tell you anything useful.

I was complete 8/22 and received the interview invite by email today, 9/29 asking for october 3rd or 4th (jeeze, where's the idea of advance notice?) ---both of which i had other interview conflicts with but they were nice enough to reschedule when I called.
In conclusion, wait and don't worry, they are running a bit behind many other schools.....

I'm the same (email invite today, complete 8/23), going Oct 3

if you dont mind sharing - - what are your stats?

overall 3.82, bcpm 3.84, mcat 35 (i should probably mention my 9 on verbal..)
average ECs, nothing great.

Oh, and I sent everything in by the end of August and didn't get the complete e-mail until 9/17.

How are people getting to the interview? I live in NJ, so I'm debating whether I should drive (eek! city parking) or take public transportation (eek! trying to find my way around NYC)

I think public transportation is the way to go...but NJ transit is notoriously untimely with their buses so leave yourself plenty of extra space

just came back from my interview!
i definitely would not recommend bringing ur own car...
nyc has intolerable amount of traffic.. and u won't find a parking space (without paying tons of money).
i took Bonanza busline from hartford, CT to new york port authority.
it was suppose to be a 3 hr ride but it took 30 mins longer due to traffic, so you should definitely anticipate some lag time.

the interview, itself, was more organized and rather quick.
they gave us a 1hr tour of the school (got to see the facilities like the library, lecture halls, dorms.. also observed an anatomy lab where students were dissecting cadavers). i was particularly impressed with the dorms. the rooms aren't the biggest but definitely cheap ($640 for size 17x10) and it's inside the medical center so everything is nearby (no jackets needed during the winter!). plus there's definitely a strong sense of community/family amongst the students.
Then we ate lunch with some 1st year students and was given a 30 minute-ish presentation basically on everything from curriculum, student life, research, to clinical opportunities.
they also showed us around Bellevue hospital. being one of the oldest/largest public hospital, they have a ton of diverse patient population and great clinical opportunities.
afterwards, i had my interview, which was very laid back and comfortable. i usually get nervous at interviews but i wasn't nervous AT ALL.
all in all, the whole day was a very positive experience and i would be thrilled to be given the opportunity to attend nyu.

anyways, good luck to u guys!!

Dude, take the path to the World Trade. walk 2 blocks east to the Brooklyn Bridge Station and get on the 6 train going uptown. Get off at 33rd st and walk four blocks east to 1st Ave. Congratulations, you are at NYU medical center

You really think DWright, not CBeltran, should be MVP? It's going to RHoward (obviously).

Wright gets the MVP of the Mets for being the biggest part of the soul of the team, Beltran gets it for his numbers, and Howard wins it for the league because he just had the most monstrous sophomore season that anyone has ever seen.

do you all think this is a problem, or that i should just wait it out?

I had my secondary in on July 31 (same day I got it), and I know my LOR's were available since Aug 2 since all my other schools showed that they got it by that date. I did not receive a complete email from NYU and I finally decided to go against the "Don't call" policy and I called this past monday (early October)...turns out they had "misplaced" my application and said they would email me once they found it. Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed. The next day I finally got my complete email. So, I think you should go ahead and call and find out why exactly you haven't gotten your complete email even though they won't be too thrilled that you called, it's better than being put behind two months worth of applicants that you should have been reviewed ahead of.

Just my opinion.

secondary submitted on 7/20
"complete" email on 8/16
interview invite 10/4

When were you there? I had my interview on Wed. I totally agree with everything in the above post. NYU was a great school and the interview was totally laid back. Don't drive there! My dad drove me and ended up paying close to $50 for parking. Good luck to everyone else who interviews there!

Does anyone know on what days of the week NYU conducts their interviews? I will be in New York for another interview in December and would like to combine them.

every weekday, and they offer you a span of 2 weeks to pick your preferred date.

Hey guys, is NYU on a rolling basis?
I am getting my committee letter only next week and NYU is my top choice. I have very good stats MCAT:32 GPA 3.9 Comm hrs:500, but i dont even know if i will make it to interview since my undergrad messed things up with my LOR. what do you think?

NYU = rolling.

Are you positive? Because that would mean that I made the mistake of a life time by delaying my interview for 2 months...
