NYU kicks out students after first year?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, students fail out. I think this is the most discussed topic on SDN. NYU certainly wouldn't want to lose 195K of tuition/person.

let's say you complete a year at NYU and then fail out. What happens here? Do you get a chance to repeat(and gradduate in 5 years), or your kicked out from the school? Which means that you wasted one year of your life and about 90k. What happens from here?

from there, your life is basically over. I mean, what else are you going to do with a BS Biology degree?

Umm, be a biologist? Teach biology?

There are tons of jobs for people out there who just have college degrees, no matter what they are. A co-worker of mine constantly tells the story of when he was working at the foundry, and the boss calls up him to his office. He thought he was going to get fired because he had only been there a few months. Turns out there was a supervisor position open and he offered it to him. He asked why he deserved it when there were other guys who had been there 20 years. The boss told him he was the only one with a college degree, and boom just like that his pay doubled. Pretty much the same thing happened to me.

I think a lot of people forget or don't know what the world is like without a college degree.

I think the rumor that pervades through SDN is that NYU kicks people out after first/second year to make room for the international students. But that rumor is false! The preclinic labs only fit the US students but their other facilities are more than enough to fit the class size.

Another rumor is that they have an unforgiving cirriculum which is true to an extent. They dont have any quotas to fill or anything like that. If you do your work and not get distracted by the many things that Manhatten has to offer, you'll be fine.

This is from talking to current NYU students and issues that were addressed through the interview.

Maybe in a movie, but I don't think that would really happen. life would simply end if you flunk out of NYU. Simple as that.
