On more than one of my other interviews, I heard a worrisome rumor that the NYU MSTP was not awarded the NIH MSTP grant for the 2009-2010 cycle. Supposedly, due to the circumstances under which Director Ulane left the program, the grant application was mismanaged. Does anyone know if there is any credit to this rumor and, if so, how it will affect current applicants both in first year and beyond?

Holy cow. Don't know if this is true, but holy cow. This is one of the first MSTP programs (maybe second?)...

Thanks for the contact info. I received a response from Dr. Shapiro, who informed me that NYU did indeed receive an NIH MSTP grant for the 2009-2010 cycle, and while there had been some difficulties in the past, NYU had since addressed them and will again be applying for renewal by the end of the 2010 period.
