Hey all,

Does anyone know the deal with NYU's notification policy, post interview? I know there are SDNers who were emailed about acceptances and who interviewed in early-mid November. My impression is that they send emails to all those who are accepted, since that is what they told me. I guess I'm wondering if and when the rejection will be coming post November interview or if they accept people over a few months time.

Thanks,
Chloe

I interviewed on 11/5 and was accepted on 12/23. I received my acceptance in the mail (no email).
My interviewer told me, to be quite honest, that the school takes a few applicants in January and then the majority of students at the regular time (March). I'm not sure why he said 'January' if he meant 'December,' but I do not think that they are rolling, meaning that if you don't hear by the New Year, from what I understand, you won't hear until March for an acceptance.
Other opinions?

i was wondering how they notify you of an interview...mail or email??? thanks!!!

they notify you of interviews by snail mail.

chloe5, i don't think not getting an acceptance via email at the end of Dec means you'll be getting a rejection post interview. it prolly just means they are still processing your app. do you remember that little white card you got in the interview folder? it says that people are accepted in january and february as well. then in march ppl who haven't heard are notified of waitlist or rejection decisions. something like that.

i got interviewed dec 7th
the admission told me that all dec interviewees get decisions by feb 15th
they have been known to stick by that deadline
at least u know when to expect an answer
instead of some schools that keep u waiting for ever with " maybe another few weeks"

hey classof07,

congrats! do you think you'll attend nyu next fall?

nyu is sending out acceptances in january; i interviewed in early december and was lucky to receive an acceptance e-mail last week. i'm sure they'll continue sending out more acceptances until the big notification date in march.

to Redbeanmochi,

It's a tough call at this point. I'm certainly going to wait until I hear from the rest of the schools to which I applied in March. I really liked NYU's students and they have a great name with national recognition. The residency placement list is pretty good, but leaves something to be desired (although by saying that I'm obviously not taking into account personal motivation and personal autonomy). However, the biggest deciding factor for me right now is the living situation: I thought the dorms looked terrible and am not sure I could (intellectually) thrive living with communal bathrooms and single dorm rooms. I mean, freshmen year of college is one thing, medical school is another entirely.

I may sound like a spoiled brat, and to some extent I am, but creature comforts our important to me. Things like my own bathroom, my own space, etc. I probably should have thought more about that before applying to 4 NYC schools.

But I was impressed with the school all around and feel that if I could somehow translocate Mt Sinai's dorms to NYU's campus, it would be far and away the best NYC school (... that I've been accepted to).

What about yourself?

HI Redbeanmochi and Classof07,

Let me congrat you on your acceptances. I was also lucky to have received the acceptance email last week, my first acceptance to a medical school. Since I am from CA, I am still waiting on UCs. Otherwise, any school in NYC will do. Do you know how good NYU is with financial aid? Thanks!

Z.

I've got no clue about NYU financial aid; there was no aid discussion or session on the interview day. I'm trying not to think about that until March rolls around (and then I'll have to get on the ball with regards to FAFSA forms).

And I'll be the first to point out the typo in my previous post: 'our' should read 'are.' Homonyms'll get you when you're typing fast.

Anyone else have any information regarding financial aid?

hey classof07,

i'm in the same boat as you; the students at nyu seemed very enthusiastic and the clinical reputation is quite good, but the dorms... they were so depressing. stark, poor lighting, sterile communal bathrooms. it would be a huge downgrade from the beautiful apartment that i'm in right now. and i need a decent kitchen to cook in! i've realized the past few years the impact the living situation has on my happiness, sanity, ability to study...

yeah, right now i have acceptances to 2 philly schools (jeff and temple) and nyu and will have to wait till march to hear back from the rest of the schools. my first choice is u.penn, since it's an awesome school and philly is affordable so i'd be able to rent an apartment. are you looking at any other nyc schools? mt. sinai? columbia? i'm debating about going to my sinai interview, esp since they are experiencing some financial problems. but hey, what med school affiliated hospitals aren't experiencing financial setbacks nowadays?

i'm not sure how nyu is with fi aid. word is almost all med schools are about the same (all loans, barely any grant money), with the exception of stanford, harvard, u.penn, and wash u.

we'll have to keep in touch about nyu
