Hi Everyone! I have been lucky enough to be accepted to NYU and UB Dental school and LECOM and now I don't know which one to pick. I was originally wait listed at UB so I already put down a deposit at NYU. NYU is closer to home (about a half hour) and is better known. I also feel that in dental school you will gain resources that will help you establish yourself near that school, and I want to end up in Westchester, Long Island or NYC. UB is cheaper (because I am in-state), I went to UB for undergrad so I know the area and the school and have friends that are going there next year as well as years above me. The thing that I am most concerned about is the large class sizes at NYU, I feel as if you don't get enough attention, especially in labs and stuff. LECOM is a new school in a great location with small classes and state of the art facilities and after being in Buffalo for 4 years wouldn't mind going to Florida, but it's a very new school and is PBL. Can someone please help me with this because I am so confused?!

Thanks!! Congrats to all of those that have been accepted!

there have been a few posts comparing these two schools before, so try searching ub vs nyu and you'll find the threads! 🙂

I personally had these two options, and I am choosing Buffalo for sure, hands down (instate).
I went to NYU for undergrad and was in a 7 year dental program with them, but I left it somewhere in the middle of my 2nd year mainly because I realized just how little NYU values their students. I left hoping to get accepted into one of my dream schools, and it was the best decision I ever made.

Buffalo had a very family-like feel when I was there, not just amongst the students, but also between the students and faculty. It's renowned to have a superior clinical curriculum, you don't ever compete for chairs, getting patients is never difficult, you learn/do your own lab work (NYU may or may not as well), and they just had a 100% first time pass rate for Part 1 of the boards. Lastly, as a NY resident, the cost is unbeatable.

NYU still is a wonderful dental school, but with a class size of 330, I am just so turned off by that number. Some of my friends who go to NYUCD say it's like undergrad all over again sometimes, but they also do say great things about the school. They are opening up a new dental school building next door, and from rumors, I hear its going to be super nice! Location in NYC is self-explanatory.

Take everything I'm saying with a grain of salt, everyone loves boasting about their own school, me included 😛
