Today I noticed on Creog Clearinghouse that there is a prelim Ob/Gyn spot at NYU. What happens to people in prelim spots after that year is over? Do they have to transfer into other programs with open spots?

Just like prelim anything, you have to find another spot. The good news is that Ob/Gyn certainly has some attrition, and there are not a lot of prelim spots out there. So, if you go prelim, just based on the numbers, there will almost certainly be an open Pgy 2 spot somewhere, and not a lot of people competing for it.
