I did not get one of the scholarships, and I never really considered NYU after I got into my state school, but if I were to be given one of those 30,000 a year schollys, I'd attend in a second. Alas, it seems like a URM thing, damn. Is anyone that is not a urm get the scholarship?

It's not 30,000, or anything close to a UPenn dean's, but NYU did give me a $15,000 merit scholarship for the year (and I think it get's renewed every year, depending on how you do in NYU). I'm not going to go to NYU, but $15,000 is pretty significant.

Someone got a 30k scholarship (URM). But it seems like non-URMs are eligible for the 15k ones.

I got a $30,000 a year one, renewable for all four years as long as my gpa stays above a 3.2 in dental school. Like i said in another thread, im half hispanic, but I'm not sure its relevant for not.

How come some people already have scholarships and some don't even with high stats?

Also, is do they base the scholarships on GPA or DAT as well? I am just wondering that if they do consider DAT, what their DAT cutoff is for the merit!

I'm not exactly sure what constitutes eligibility. I didn't get a scholarship :lame: Oh well.

How does one get these scholarships? Is it automatic with acceptance or does one have to apply for it?

You get considered automatically...when you apply..there is no seperate application.

I would like to know this answer as well because I think my DAT scores and GPA are above their average and I got NOTHING!

The scholarship is not given out based on DAT scores and GPA alone. I believe some people have an extraordinary life story along with great credentials which is why they get a scholarship to lessen the financial burden. Hardships through life, making it against all odds and getting decent stats is what separates these folks I believe.

How high above their averages?

In any case, I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't get anything either...

Do they offer the merit scholarships with the letter of acceptance? Or they give it to you later after you mail your deposit?
