I have a NYU interview in a week.. and i was wondering if you guys can give me some advice.. i have never been to NY before.. so i really duno exactly how close or far different places are...................... as far as i know.. NYU is in the middle of NY city? or Manhattan rite?.. and I have a family member that lives in Brooklyn.. i was wonder if brooklyn is far away from NYU?.. if it is i think i would b better off getting a hotel room near the school........... and if i do.. can n.e of you guys give me any recommendation on which hotel, inn i should stay at?.. (walking distance to school would b the best)

thank you sooo much for your help..

it's NYC. The public transportation is great. Stay with your family and save some cash.

Hup

If you stay in Brooklyn give yourself plenty of time to get there. NYU college of dentistry is right around 2nd and 24th (so lower/mid east side). Traffic will be typical.

Use hopstop.com. Lived in the city for almost 4 years now.. still hopstop everywhere I go!

so how far is brooklyn from nyu?... .. i'm asking b/c i'm debating if that would b okay if i go ..since i wont b traveling with a car.................. if the interview starts at 8am... .and i would like to get to NYU by 7am or 7 30am to settle down............ then what time would i Have to leave Brooklyn?... thank you very much again guys..

You can use this website (I also posted it in a different thread somewhere on here) to estimate travel time from one place to another. Make sure you enter the right time/day since subway schedules can vary. Also, give yourself an extra 30 minutes of time just in case of subway delays etc.

Personally, I'd probably recommend staying closer to the school - at least just the night before the interview. That said, if you are looking to save some cash, staying in Brooklyn is a good second option.

I agree with you guys. Stay in Brooklyn and take subway to NYU. It is the easiest and fastest way of traveling in NYC. The subway system is the easiest in the world, just look at the map and you ll figure it out. Don't even think about driving!

I interviewed at NYU and sttayed with my buddy in Bushwick Brooklyn. I only took two trains i\on the subway and it took me 45 minutes. I left brooklyn around 6:30 and was at the school by around 7:30 with plenty of time to chill and get my head right!! The walk from the 6 train to the school is only like 3-4 blocks.

Stay with you family in Brooklyn, save money, and the subway will be a good experience to see if you will be able to handle the hussle and bussle of NYC if you get in.

Brooklyn is definitely the cheapest route, but if you did want that hotel close to school, you can look at The Marcel. It's 2 blocks away, but you're probably looking at $200 a night.

hi everyone,

I have NYU interview coming up, can anyone tell me what time the interview ends so I can book the fligh back accordingly? I'm planning on booking the flight at 530 pm, is that enough time after the interview to get to the airport well in advance?

thankss

Yea, that's perfect timing. The interview ends about 1:30. You will be at the airport with plenty of time to spare, which is better than rushing.

Don't bother looking at train schedules in NYC as they are never accurate. But don't worry you'll be traveling during rush hour so trains will come quite frequent. Don't waste your money booking a room just to stay closer to the school as it isn't necessary. Although the MTA doesn't follow its schedule strictly, during rush hour trains come every 10-15 minutes.

It depends where in BK you reside at, if you're further down south or east it will take a bit longer but not by much. The time can range anywhere from 20 minutes to 50 minutes. If you know where in BK you'll be in I could give you a better estimate for the travel time.

The quickest route to NYU is to take whatever train you can and transfer to the 6 train and get off at 23rd St. The walk is only about 3 blocks away which will take about 5-8 minutes of walking time. It's also easy to navigate as the streets go by numbers. And if you really aren't sure which direction to walk in, ask the breakfast vendors on the corner of the streets for directions, and most of the time they will direct you to the right direction.

If you are planning to take public transportation to JFK, it will take about 1.5 hr of travel time.

I don't think they are that long. I was told they had tours and lunch after the interviews🙂 What date is yours on? Mine is next Friday.

My NYU interview is Jan 22nd so I'll probably see you guys there!

Holy crap, the interviews are 5.5 hours?

Mine lasted 15 seconds. They took one look at me, followed by a half-glance and then told me to get lost.

Anyway, I suggest you stay as close as you can afford to the school. Sure, if one is familiar with the city its no problem navigating via trains and buses, but, as a first timer you might be late if you stay too far.

If you still want to stay in Brooklyn with family, have someone drive you there or guide you. I believe the interview was real early too (8:00 a.m) You don't wanna end up with the horror of having missed a stop and not knowing what to do the day of the interview 🙂.

Also, you can take whatever train to grand central, take a yellow cab to NYU Dental (give address, but they prob will know.) This is easy, and the cab fare is cheap (8 bucks w tip). You'll be there in 6 minutes.
