NYU vs NJDS

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
of the two, i liked njds more than nyu. but if you were to compare them, i guess i'd say look at some distinguishing features:

NYU: city, large class size (and the pros and cons that come with it), lots of new technology, lots of faculty

NJDS: newark, average size class (probably a better chance of getting to know your professors/all your class), recently redone facilities, campus housing across the street

i think if i were you id probably lean to njds..youre not far from the city if you really want it and you do have all the perks of belonging to a small class while still being provided with some nice facilities

just some of my thoughts..

Unless you have $$$ to burn, there is really no choice here:

4 years at NYU = $350-400K

4 years at UMDNJ = $125-150K

IMHO, there is nothing that NYU can offer vs. UMDNJ that is worth $200-250K dollars. That being said, you must feel some draw towards NYU (you said you did your undergrad there) that makes it worth it to you. I would take the money and run!

Oh yeah, check my signature!!!

It's probably true that private schools tend to have better facilities than state schools ... but you have to "pay" for it with higher tuition.

Another thing with NJDS/NYU comparison is that NJDS is in a really rough neighborhood, esp. compared to NYU .. but the living expenses are definitely much cheaper, esp. if you know where to live. And it's not as if you're going to have ton of free time in dental school to enjoy the surroundings.

Hey viraj do you mind me asking you what your stats were and when you applied? I live in Ny applied to Umdnj in june and havent heard from them since. I have a 3.4 and 21AA i thought at least i would get a pre dec 1 interview. Thanks man. PS go to UMDNJ definitely

i agree with JMJRDH1, IMO what you get from NYU for the extra $ is not worth it. actually NJDS is not in that bad an area as LIer2010 says. i work and go to grad school there, there are way more rough parts. but any city has its dangers, naturally. you're NJ resident, i'd say NJDS. good luck.
