NYU is $280,000 not including living, right?
UMDNJ is about $250,000 with living, right?

So if I was commuting to and from NYU then it doesnt seem to be too much of a price difference. I just want to make sure I'm correct here. Thanks in advance!

For UMDNJ, you have the option to change to NJ Residency after 1 year and enjoy the discounted tuition. (I think it is around 20k less but I don't remember exactly)

For UMDNJ, in-state or out of state? For in-state tuition, it is about $32,000 per year, without living. So 4 years tuition alone is $130,000. They estimate that living will cost about $17,000 per year, so 4 years is about $70,000, adding up to a total of $200,000 (tuition + living). If you are out of state, the tuition is $50,000 per year, totaling $270,000 (tuition + living)

NYU has a tuition of about $60,000 per year, without housing. 4 years tuition is $240,000. If you are commuting, there is no housing cost, but do keep in mind expenses like car insurance, maintenance (gas is a big one) and if you are living outside of NY, $12/day for toll, estimating around 10k for 4 years alone.

In the end, if you are out-of-state for UMDNJ, then the actual cost difference would be negligible (270k at UMDNJ vs. 240k + toll/gas at NYU). If you are in-state, you are looking at a difference of maybe about $60k for all 4 years ($15,000 per year), not a significant difference if you ask me especially if you like NYU more (200k at UMDNJ vs. 240k + toll/gas at NYU).

In regards to changing residency after the first year, you will end up paying ($50,000 + $32,000 (x 3)) = $146,00 for tuition at UMDNJ. Plus $70,000 for housing = $216,000. Again, actual cost difference would be $60k ish for all 4 years ($216k at UMDNJ vs. $240k + toll/gas at NYU).
