No sim lab in NYU has 180 students during class. The biggest class has like ~90. There arent even 180 seats in those labs. If your D1 friend had lecture during that time, doesn't mean all D1's had lecture. I'd talk to your D1 buddy and have him give you a tour of the school that's not an official interview. I think you've got a good resource you should use. Unless you've got an acceptance elsewhere and have no interest, that's a different story.
If you feel the need to go out and spend $100 every time you leave the house to go out for the evening whether it's fancy cocktails or a buttload of sandwiches, it'll be like that in any city you go to, I promise you. You gotta master the art of food and pregame dude! Plus there are tons of drink specials all the time if you go to the right places.
Nothing wrong with the occasional fancy joint, but you're also not eating lobster for dinner every night at home.
It's nothing personal man, honestly. I just get frustrated when people say negative things when they aren't accurate. That goes for any school, person, situation, etc.
I will agree with you though that if you have an opportunity to get a good dental education while incurring less debt, I say go for it. It's not really something that can be argued.
