pretty confused on where to go 😕. i'm sure people who are attending these colleges will be biased to their school. but honestly the reason i cant decide is because i like the location of nyu a lot better but upenn is a more respected school in dentistry. i can specialize at either place as long as i do well, i like large class sizes, etc. so yeah any opinions?

I would say go to Upenn all the way!!!! More respected, smaller class size, and most of all the name in case you wanted to specialize.. I know you can no matter where you go, but the name def. helps...

Since both end up costing about the same I would go to upenn, however you should go to the school YOU feel the most comfortable at. Don't think just because you go to upenn you will get into the specialty of your choice. people on here seem to think that acceptance into upenn or other top tier schools guarantees an acceptance into any specialty. It still takes a lot of hard work. So go to the one you feel will provide you with the best atmosphere to succeed.

UPenn is a fantastic school. That is where my father went, and it just makes everything alot easier once you get out in terms of opening your practice, or specializing. NYU is a good school as well, but the setting where UPenn is located in Philadelphia is also ideal for dental school, and the dental school is located near the undergraduate college, Vet School, etc., therefore there is alot of opportunity to meet people throughout all of UPenn, as well as within the dental school. However, I am on NYU's waitlist for this fall, so my opinion might be biased because I am hoping a spot opens up for me. I interviewed at UPenn this year, though I did not get in, and I really liked the school based on both what I saw and what I have heard from my dad. Oh and if I don't get into NYU off of the waitlist, I applied to a Medical School in the carribean, American University of Antigua, that did not require MCATs but is accredited and since I do not think I want to reapply if I don't get in NYU I may go to the carribean even though dentistry was what I have wanted to pursue for years. I guess I could still go for maxillofacial and just do it reverse order with medical school first. Anyway, hook a dude up and go to UPenn so more spots open up at NYU and enjoy University of Pennsylvania's elite institution.

aaah, i feel i'll be happier at nyu so i'm slightly leaning more towards nyu, but EVERYONE recommends upenn so if i pick nyu, i'll feel like i am making a mistake or something....man i'm in a battle thats for sure...

I never understood it when people said that they felt they would be happier at one school over another. I mean, you know some of the things that you like and don't like before you enter but I assure you, you really do not have much of an idea if you will be happier at a particular school. I feel that it is safer to find out from other people, who have actually gone to the school, how they like it. Personally, I asked around at NYU and about 9 out of 10 people told me to go anywhere else. They didn't say to choose Penn or Columbia over NYU......they said choose ANY dental school over NYU. Most of the students at Penn, however, told me that it was tough and demanding but that they were glad that they chose Penn. Just my 2 cents.....

P.S. I don't really care for all the comments that I am going to get which will state that I am idiot for bashing NYU.....this is just my OPINION and take on the matter. Just do the research and you will see for yourself.

And 10 out of 10 students I talked with were thrilled with NYU. I guess it depends on who you talk to when you visit. I'm happy with my decision so far but I'll let you know when I start in a couple weeks -- since I really don't know jack at this point except for what I've heard and seen.

does anyone who goes to nyu have any input? people going to upenn recommend their school but is there anyone who goes to nyu that can support/not support the school?

I attend NYU right now, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. PM me if you have specific questions.
