Nyu

. . . except practically everyone who wasn't accepted post-interview is on it.

Well I **think** most everyone who has participated in this thread has some other options, so at least noone is THAT dependent on waitlist movement. I doubt someone who was interviewed at NYU would be rejected at every other place applied to.

Think again. At this point I am depending on NYU waitlist movement or an acceptance to Columbia or Yale.

Quick question before this thread is put to sleep...

I'm one of the waitlisted ones, and I'm trying to figure out when people will start declining their acceptances to NYU. When does Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, etc send out their acceptances? Or has that already occurred?

Anyone?

columbia = march 2nd
harvard = march 9th
mayo = march 15th (although most of these acceptances have already been given out)

around march 17 for cornell, according to last year's threads and this year's sdn rumor (info from calling adcom).

Finally got my wailtlist in the mail. Thought they had just plain forgot about me.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but I thought I'd post that I withdrew/declined my spot at NYU (wonderful school, just not the best fit for me)....may it go to one of you SDN waitlisters!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

wooo!

those of you who got waitlist letters - what did the letters say? how were you supposed to respond to be placed on the waitlist?
i intereviewed, but nyu sent their response letter to my permenant address, and i didn't find out until a week later that my family was going to be gone for 3 weeks😡 now it's gonna take another week, i figured i can at least respond to them first.

I'm in a similar situation. Does anyone know Dean Genieser's email address?

yea, did it mention if we should email or snail mail them? at what address?

Just posting to say that I was waitlisted, too. I withdrew today, though, so less competition for those of you staying in.

Crap, I snail mailed. Hopefully I don't piss them off! At this point, I don't want to get on NYU's bad side!

it just reads "notify in writing". doesn't indicate the means.

I just got my friggin waitlist in the mail tonight (2/28) and I think the deadline is tomorrow. If I e-mail [email protected] tonight, you think I'll still be aiight?

Thanks

it looks like some others emailed theirs, so you should be alright.
in any case, you should email even if you're going to send snail mail. and i think snailing on top of that should be alright cause it'll be postmarked the day you send it.

was the letter addressed as written on feb. 15? kinda crazy if it took that long.

Is the 'respond in 2 weeks' from when the letter was written or 2 weeks from when you got it (well, several days added to post-marked date, depending on location) ... i thought the latter, but perhaps I'm wrong?

Just wondering, has anyone on the west coast heard yet? I haven't seen anyone on mdapps from the west coast that has heard.

i live in california and i got my waitlist letter around feb. 20th. (i'm not on mdapps.)

on a different note, i talked to my pre-med advisor today, and according to her pre-med advisor handbook, NYU waitlist sees the most movement around June-July.

goodluck to everyone!

I live in Nevada and I got my waitlist letter on the 2/21.

Hey guys, I called NYU they said they do not care whether it is a email or snail. So dont worry just write an email.

Hey Garrison I'm from Cali and was waitlisted...got the letter last Wednesday. I interviewed December 12th.

dear lord, why? except for wailisters, who will hear back i a few months if lucky, all final decisions have been made. please let this thread die. if you were accepted, then there's a c/o 2011 thread to go to. if you were waitlisted, then you'll have to sit tight.

hey did u guys get a confirmation after mailing in or emailing your waitlist acceptance thing?

I mailed it it in a couple weeks ago and emailed 5 days ago to check if NYU received my waitlist confirmation but i havent heard back yet

I didn't get any confirmation either.

i mailed it in too. to nancy genieser (cant remember how to spell it right now). and no conformation. now you guys are making me worried...do you think that it's okay that we didnt get conformations?

one more thing about being waitlisted: first of all, I'm surprised to hear that there is a lot of waitlist movement in June and July. I guess that the what's going on is that a lot of people who have been accepted at NYU get off the waitlist elsewhere in June and then take themselves off of the NYU acceptance list. It surprises me that the movement is not in May...but maybe most people who are accepted to NYU are only holding that one acceptance?!

also, when we were interviewing, does anyone else remember that they had some numbers cited in the info folder along the lines of that they accept about 50% of people that they interview in the long run? they havent accepted anywhere near 50% so far (i dont think...), so there's still hope!

This is just speculation, but it also might just be that they're a bit slow at processing changes in the acceptance/waitlists. I've been trying to decline/withdraw my acceptance for about a month, and but the office has studiously ignoring me (or in the least, won't respond and haven't refunded my deposit...I really hope they at least have given my spot to someone). So hang in there!

usnews tells us that they ultimately accept about 50% of interviewees. where do you get the idea that they haven't accepted nearly 50% of their interviewees?!? i hope you're not using sdn as your sample.

mdapps now shows:

Waitlist: 44
Acceptances: 33
Interviews: 109

 mdapps is now showing more waitlists than acceptances.

I mailed my waitlist confirmation to dean genesier as well. I then called to see if they received it and they said they are not willing to check that for anyone. So, I am also worried.

i wouldn't worry about whether they received your letter, but rather that the unwillingness of them to check on this suggests they have too many waitlistees to keep track of.

anybody have an idea of how many typically get off the waitlist?

Anyone know how influential a letter stating something to the effect of "you are my number one school. i will commit to your school if offered an acceptance" is in getting off the waitlist? I'm not at this point yet, but just for future reference.

I can only speak to the letter not hurting you, but a good friend who went to NYU was explaining to me recently that he was accepted off the waitlist and had sent them about a letter a month between Feb and May and was eventually accepted off of the waitlist. I asked what he said and he said just that he was still interested and gave them updates etc. with a very enthusiastic tone (and I'm sure correct grammar and spelling) 🙂

Edit: didn't read your post thoroughly-- not sure but I sent one to my top choice school.
