i'm an incoming d1. i know that a pda required for the second year. i'm thinking about getting a smart phone. how much, if any, did you guys use a pda your your d1 year? how much and specifically what for did you guys use it your d2 year?

you don't really need a pda even though as much as NYU stresses it.

YOu can really go through the college without ever using one. BUT its is the biggest time saver in the clincs - espeically looking up drugs and interactions.'

Also, more importantly its is EXCELLENT for time planning and schedule maintenance. Just get a nice treo or a windows based device....anything that can be synced with Microsoft Outlook.

I agree. A PDA is not necessary for d-school. My class got a deal through Dell and about half the class bought one. I think when it was all said and done, the only thing they were good for was playing Monopoly with your buddies during lecture. IMO, its just one more thing you got to lug around, but a sleek Blackberry might be worth looking into...

D2 here,
in terms of PDA-only, nah you dont need it. just get a nice smartphone/pda phone, treo, blackberry, etc. anything that runs palm-os or windows mobile will do, since you'll get epocrates next year. plus you'll notice your schedule will be different everyday, need a good way to keep track of you classes, labs, etc.

Epocrates will be coming to the iphone soon as well according to their website, so I believe an iphone will work as well.
As for needing one your D1 year, it's totally unecessary. I have yet to get one nor have we been asked to use one.
