NYU's average debt

    Why is NYU's average debt so low, when their financial aid is primarily loan-based?

    Or is their need and/or merit-based financial aid good?

    I looked it up on US News (see below) and you are right. It is a bit strange.


    New York University
    Financial aid & Tuition


    Financial Aid (2001-2002 Academic Year)
    Students receiving any financial aid: 76%
    Students receiving loans: 72%
    Students receiving grants/scholarships: 48%
    Students receiving work study: 29%

    Average indebtedness for 2000 graduates who incurred medical school debt: $76,992
