So I started a forum a couple of weeks ago asking how I should study for organic chemistry because I decided to take it this summer. Now I thought that my orgo chem would be the regular 6 weeks, which isn't a problem because I have done summer classes before. On the first day of class I found out that Orgo I and Orgo II is only 4 weeks each.😱 I think I confused the session dates and thought for some reason that the Orgo I was going to end around the first week of july, but I of course was wrong. Orgo I ends in about 2 weeks and Orgo II starts directly after and lasts until about the second week of july.

I think that it is absolutely ridiculous to teach an insane course like o-chem in 4 weeks, even if it meet 4 times a week for 3 hours a day. We just had an exam today and a quiz this week. We're most likely going to have an exam next week and another quiz is schedule for monday. I've been devoting all my time to o-chem spending about 8 hours a day on it, and my quiz grade was ok and I think I did pretty well on the exam, but still.

Do anyone else thinks that it's ridiculous? The only thing I can say in it's defense that it will be end before the book release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows... lol... and I will actually have a summer vacation of a month to do loads of things with my friends.

What do you think?

Holy mother of God, why would you want to do that to yourself (take OChem in 4-6 weeks) and waste your summer?

I took OChem over the summer and think it was a great experience. Of course my friends taking it during the school year seemed to be learning a lot of concepts that I didn't learn, but they also had a lot of homework/busy work that I didn't have to do.

I don't think it will be as bad as you think.

I just finished o-chem. Altogether, it took me 6 weeks (including labs, lab reports, whatever), and I also managed to work 20 hours a week and very much have a life. So it's totally feasible to get it done in 4 weeks.

I honestly don't understand the grammar of your poll, but you better do well in orgo and you better remember the key concepts b/c this is material you will see again on the MCAT. If you can do both of those, then you're fine... I am just a little worried about both of those happening with this break-neck pace.

No. I think 6 weeks is ok but 4 is pushing it. I have ochem 2 now, a 6-week course, and I really like it better than during the semester. Of course you have to devote all your time to it, but it's so much easier to remember things because it's constantly being told to you. And just 6 weeks, and you're done in no time👍 But I don't think I could deal with just 4..that's a lot of notes to go over every night.

My Dad is a Chiropractor and the summer before he went to Chiropractic college he took Orgo I and Orgo II in 8 weeks total. He said it was very intense, but very doable. So, I think I would rather have them back-to-back in the summer like this. Get them out of the way!

That'd be pretty impressive if they were covering all the material they do during the year, which I'm sure is NOT the case. I'm taking it right now in a 6-week session, and we are covering basically 1-chapter per class. There is no time for review or backpeddling. We are also covering all the same material as the course does during the fall semester. I can't imagine condensing it even more.

So given the fact yours must be a condensed, less thorough version, yeah, definitely doable.

i took it over the summer. I and II. it was fine. i think that i did better over the summer than i would've in the sem.
every class session = one week
every week = one month.
test every thurs.
it was str8.
my advice, log off sdn and study.

We're supposed to do everything that all the other semesters cover. It's a pain in the rear studying it, but I have to get it done and over with so I can take my MCATs next year (don't have time to fit it in my regular schedule b/c of my major classes).

Aye, that's what me thinks, Cap'n!

Seriously though, that's a lot of stuff to learn in four weeks.

haha, pirates are funny

No but seriously, you better be ready to commit because that sounds like a lot of work.

+1...

If you don't take the time to proof-read your post, I can't take the time to do anything but make fun of you.

I took it in summer school, session I and II back to back while working full time night shifts in an ER, and got A's. It was rough, but not undoable. I'd rather get it out of the way, and have it be the only course I was taking instead of taking along side other tough courses. It requires one's full attention.
