Hi!

im going to be a soph in Biomed engineering..looking at my schedule and activities/commitments for next year, i've had to do some rearranging to make sure i can do the best i can in my classes

So i threw in a correspondence english class in lieu of an engineering class that i can push back a semester.

However, i need to have this engineering class second semester which means something has to be replaced...

the only thing I can move is organic chemistry lab. Im not sure if this is the same for all schools but at my school we have 2 semesters(3 credits each) of o-chem and one semester (3 credits) of o-chem lab. Generally, the lab class is taken with the second semester.

I want to move this to first semester junior year. legal? or big mistake? would it make things more difficult to understand?

Also, I am considering taking the mcats the august before junior
year...would not having had lab make this difficult?

thanks for your help 😀

I took the second semester of organic chemistry lab a year after I took the class. As long as your school doesn't care, med schools won't either.

The o-chem section on the MCAT is only 20% of the BS section. Not having taken o-chem lab yet wont matter too much, just learn NMR, IR spectroscopy, etc on your own.

If your school is ok with you doing this, go ahead.

Thanks for the help..im pretty relieved haha

and no not uconn..im a midwesterner 🙂

one more question: the english class i am taking allows us to take it pass/fail if we are in nursing or engineering...

does it look bad if i take it pass/fail since it is a pre-req? is it even allowed?

i doubt i will fail but im not sure i can get a solid A..

Most people at my school take these classes seperately. It's fine! Our counselor (Neuro advisor) even recommended it. 👍

You probably shouldn't take a prerequisite pass/fail.

yeah, i did my o-chem class and lab 1.5 years apart. not really a big deal other than trying to remember some old material.
