Hi... I was just wondering if anyone else found organic chem to be a lot easier than other chem. I have taken general chem, kinetics/thermodynamics, and this quarter I am taking organic. I like organic so much more than the other chem that I have taken. Is anyone else like this? :)

O-chem starts out easy, but gets more challenging in the second half of the course. Nevertheless, I found it easier and more fun then Gen Chem.

ARE YOU ALL OUT OF YOUR MINDS??? <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Annie, I must second that!! I had a professor that liked to give 3 midterms per quarter (yes, quarter - which is TEN WEEKS) and 4 quizzes... I understand every science BUT chemistry - so my 30 weeks of o-chem were pure hell. I did enjoy the labs though. :)

depends on the professor. if you had ochem with Orville Chapman you would not be saying it's easier than gchem. Maybe if you had Luceigh or someone else.

Organic Chemistry definitely more interesting and therefore easier to study for than General Chemistry. All I remember from General Chemistry is wasting my Thursday afternoons in lab washing tubes and drawing charts for an experiment that took 30 minutes and that I already did in high school.

I started out really enjoying org chem, but then the reactions kicked in, and I was all confused! I started hating it ever since then! :p

Organic chemistry was the easiest course... I don't know why, but the reactions were a lot easier than I expected, the mechanisms too. Now, ADVANCED Organic is something to write home about! I took that course and it was a killer!

I hate inorganic chem... I think most bio majors lappreciate Organic a lot more.

I must concur, O-chem is fun! I found it to be pretty easy too. It's not hard to memorize a few reactions. And the mechanisms that you study make everything intelligible. Have fun in Biochem too.

Orgo 1 is absolutely horrible. There is NO fun whatsoever in that course. Orgo 2 is no picnic either, but there are so pretty neat reactions involved. I liked Orgo 2 because the material was more concentrated and focused. But, to each his own. . .

Post your favorite Org Chem reaction(s):

The Grignard:
R-X + Mg ----EtO2----&gt; RMgX

A "deadly" way of making benzene :D
3(C2H2) ----Fe/500C---&gt; C6H6

I think it has to do with the fact that she actually knows how to teach Ochem. She's a great teacher from what I've heard.

OH MY GOD....

We have gotten as far as to posting our favorite orgo-chem reactions????

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TOO?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I am a chem fool. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

I dont think O chem was that bad; if studied just 1-2 hours a day for O chem, it would be somewhat "less difficult" you could say.

And heres to you The Philosopher:

:p

hehhe j/k man...it's all good
