O2 needed in glucose degradation in cell respiration?

In topscore set #2, says that ,in glucose degradation, oxygen is not necessary for ATP synthesis.
But, while studying this stuff, I always bumped into O2 as the final electron accepter, and O2 is needed.

    Anyone can reason this? Thanks

Glycolysis (Conversion of glucose to pyruvate) partially degrades glucose and generates 2 ATP molecules during the process. Glycolysis doesn't require oxygen.
In fact, glycolysis can occur under anaerobic conditions in order to generate minimal ATP and prevent the cell from dying. In absence of oxygen, Alcholic/Lactic fermentation occurs in order to release NAD+ so that glycolysis continues to generate this minimal amount of ATP.

P.S. Most students confuse glycolysis with cellular respiration. Glycolysis is the portion of cellular respiration that can proceed with or without oxygen. The rest of cellular respiration (Citric Acid Cycle + Electron Transport Chain) depends on presence of oxygen.
