Does anyone know if its possible do to combined OB-GYN/PEDS?

Would that be a double residency? Or do some residencies in OB-GYN emphasize enough on PEDS?

On the turf wars, where does the OB-GYN stop and the PEDS begin? After the birth does the OB-GYN never see the baby again?

Just curious. IF you know any programs? Salary info? Live scenarios?

Thanks.

Maybe.... if its a girl

You'll see the baby (sometimes) for circumcision, otherwise when the baby comes in with the mother for the post partum visit.

You may want to check into MFM/perinatology but other than that there is no correlation between the two. Have you done any OB or Peds rotations yet?

Good luck

Rotations, not quite yet. Im pre-MS1. Start August. Wish me luck.

Maybe Family with OB would be closer to what im looking for.

I want to see the full lifecycle of a patient. Birth to adult etc.

I have no idea what MFM Periontology. Something for me to read about it guess.

Im only a bit hesitant on Family because all i hear about is how the salaries keep getting cut in that particular field.

Thanks for your post. Very helpful.

If you want to follow the life of your patients then you should do family. In OB, you can specialize in Adolescent Health (my PI this summer has done this and now just works with teenagers) and still be in the "peds" field..but that's peds as in teenagers not babies and kids. She does work through the Children's hospital, though, and therefore sees lots of kids while walking around. And, in OB, you follow the life of your patient from teen to old woman and that's a pretty significant chunk of their life...but it is also just centered on one aspect of their life for the most part. Don't worry about the salary...the U.S. will always need FPs and if not...there's always Canada! (hehehe)

I figured from your post that you were not in rotations yet (on offense intended) 😀 All your questions will basically be answered when you get to that level.

I agree with the other points on the thread, and by all means don't fall in the following traps:

don't settle on a specialty right off the bat
keep your mind and options open as feelings will change with the years
and pick a specialty that will make you happy as money will be there no matter what
and trust me, what you want to do with 300,000 you'll easily do with 200,000 or 150 a year

Good Luck!
