Hey guys, I'm a second year medical student. I just recently learned about some of the OB/GYN fellowships. I'm really interested in Reproductive endocrinology and infertility, I was wondering if anyone knew how their lifestyles compare to that of regular OB/Gyns? What are the hours like, etc?

Just what I observed when I worked with an REI attending on OB/GYN rotation:
- Most days in clinic; 8-6. Some office procedures like D&Es
- Ambulatory OR on the other days, usually until 3 or 4pm
- Almost all procedures are elective/scheduled; no emergencies or call (that I knew of)
- I don't believe this particular attending had any inpatient responsibilities

Probably not so bad for OB/GYN, but you still have to do an OBGYN residency. Not my cup of tea.

IIRC, there is a certain amount of unpredictability in the field as far as timings of egg harvest/ovulation/etc. as far as "ideal timing" for fertility procedures. Keep in mind that there is a narrow window for certain things; some things can't wait until Monday so weekends aren't necessarily always free depending on where your patients are in their fertility treatment cycles. But it is a more scheduled, lifestyle friendly field than most of their general OB/gyn onc/MFM counterparts.
