Hello! I am currently torn between Gen Surg and Ob/Gyn. I already took my surgery rotation and did well and really had a good time. However, I am currently in my Ob/Gyn rotation and I find it to be really good too. On top of that, people seem much nicer and happier in Ob/Gyn. I'd like to hear some pros and cons to Ob and Surgery.... Also, some info on USMLE scores and GPA etc.... I scored 222 on Step 1, and my GPA is somewhere around 3.2 or 3.3 What are my chances if any?

This is not necessarily due to the specialty; likely due to the program/hospital where you are rotating at. I have met plenty of depressed, nasty, malicious, malignant people in OB/gyn, and have met a number of kind, patient, happy people in general surgery. Don't pick a specialty based on perceived "niceness" of the people in it, since there will always be (several) people who will prove that theory wrong.

It really depends on what you want to get out of a medical career. If you love the OR, keep in mind that as an OB resident, you will only do GYN surgery for about 50% of your residency. You will not treat a lot of children, and you will not treat any men in OB, whereas general surgery treats everyone. General surgery, on the other hand, is longer, and I would argue that the hours in gen surg have the potential to be worse than they are for OB (again, depending on the particular program).
