If I get certified in one state, do I have to take my boards in another? Will I be given a certification number per board?

Boards for a specialty are completely separate than being licensed in your state. You could take and pass boards and fail to pass the requirements for licensing in your state (rare but could happen). Boards are essentially a national thing as every specialty has the same boards to take nationally. Licensing is done by state and you have to be licensed in every state that you practice.
