I was hoping that some of the senior medical students training in Ireland could please tell me if there are any schools/programs known for strong ObGyn training...

I'm a Canadian MD grad, and I'll be starting my residency in ObGyn this summer. I have 18 months of elective time, and I'd like to spend some of it training outside Canada...

If anyone can recommend a hospital/residency that either has good surgical gyne exposure (ie minimally invasive, etc) or obstetrics experience (critical care, high risk deliveries, etc) it would be greatly appreciated!

In Dublin, the ob/gyn hospitals are the Rotunda Hospital (http://www.rotunda.ie/) and the Coombe Hospital (http://www.coombe.ie/). They teach Trinity college students anyway, and I think also RCSI. Not sure about UCD. There's also Holles Street. I haven't done ob/gyn yet (will in May/June), but while neither hospital is particularly aesthetic, the teaching is meant to be excellent.

Yeah, Holles Street is the UCD OB/GYN hospital. Nice big old building in the centre of town - it's also the National Maternity Hospital!

From another site:

The National Maternity Hospital is the largest maternity hospital in Europe with approximately 8000 deliveries per year. It is a university hospital for Midwives and Doctors and has a bed complement of 200. The busy Gynaecological Unit is a national referral centre for Gynaecological Cancer. A one-year Higher Diploma in Neonatal Nursing is run in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is organised jointly with the Faculty of Nursing (RCSI) with the clinical component of the course based in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Laboratory service encompasses adult and perinatal microbiology.

(Can't let Leorl get away with such blatant Trinity promotion! ;) )
