Hi guys,

Have any of you gotten some home health observation hours under your belt? If so, could you share how you set them up? I'm having the hardest time finding a place to shadow in this setting. I've dropped off my resume in person at several home health agencies, followed up with phone calls and emails and nothing 🙁. I'm hoping to apply to the University of Montana in Missoula and they ask that you have experience in 3 distinct settings. I have inpatient and outpatient and I'm desperately trying to get a third (ideally home health) but having no luck. I only need 16 hours but October 15 is coming up quick 😱 Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

Maybe it's easier to do pediatric setting, adult healthcare center, ALF - they all would count as a 3rd distinct setting.
I've never heard anyone doing observation hours in home health. I would think agencies would not want to waste time to set up observation hours for you since they are not benefiting from it. But Biomechanics HHA told me they set up observations. But not sure if they are for pre-PT students.

I did ~50 hours with a home pediatric therapist, and reached out to their main administrative office to set them up (at the time I didn’t even know it was home health until the therapist had me meet her at the home of her first patient). No one else that I know of has done home health hours, though, so it is definitely a challenge to find. Be persistent in trying if you’re really interested in knowing more about home health, it’s a really cool setting to see whether pediatric or not.
