observership for NBDE!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can somebody please help on this topic?? What is observership...how is it done?? Is it absolutely necessary???
Please please help!

jodi,

simply put, observership is something when you go to a dentist and observe him treating the patients. some dentists allow you to do observerships in their clinic, some do not. IT is NOT absolutely necessary..you do it, so that you can write it on your resume..

There is no guarantee that if you do observerships, you would be considered above the rest.. there are many factors which would take you above the league, and not just one. If, you can do it, then good for you.. if not, then there are many other things to do.. One of them is getting a good score😀

In some states you don't need to pass dental assistant board to work as DA. Working as a DA or just doing some observership in a clinic will give you extra chance to get admitted.

You can ask those dentists who let you observe their work. But I doubt that you will have a written paper like recommendation letter from them by just observing unless they know you very well. Alternatively, you can list this experience on you resume and put the name and phone number on your resume in case the school admission committee want to check whether you are telling them the truth.

I noticed someone got 92 in march 2010. You can search the thread. So still, people are getting score over 90.

I believe that admission committee from most school consider the whole package of your application. So if your score is 78 and may not be as high as some other applicants then you should focus on your personal statement and recommendation letters. Try to sell yourself and let your application stand out from hundreds of applications.

Good luck!
