Obtaining a B.S degree with excess credits

I am thinking about to major in Multimedia Design, which requires 77 credits from Multimedia Design courses. Also, the general education requirement in my university requires 50 hours pretty much from every department. So, I have to take extra credits in Bio, Chem, and Physics department.

My total credits are gonna be: 77 Multimedia courses + 50 Gen Education (Including Physics I + II) + 18 hours of Chem (Gen + Orgo ) + Maybe 10 hours and Bio for prereqs

So yeah guys, I will graduating with 155 credits.

Is it possible to obtain a B.S degree in with excess credits ?

Yes. I technically had enough credits to graduate last year if i wanted to but i didnt want to squeeze in some classes that i needed for my major. So by the time i graduate i will have "excess credits."

It's definitly possible, I'll be graduating this Spring with 166 hours. The only thing to consider is that certain financial aid may be capped at an earlier number of hours. Federal funding, for example, is capped at 150 hours; however, you can petition them to cover additional hours (I did this this semester and they approved it, not sure if I was lucky or if there just fairly generous in granting approval).

I'm going to graduate at the end of this semester (four years) with 173 credits. They don't care how many credits you actually take, as long as you fulfill your requirements.

Seeing as you have to pay for all the extra classes you take I don't think the college is in any place to complain. If you're planning on taking that many extra credits though you might want to see if you can adjust it a bit so you'll have a minor as well or double major... though that might be difficult... I don't think multimedia and chemistry or bio have many overlapping credits. It would definitely be something to discuss with your college councilor though.

This only applies to some schools. I paid for the summer/winter session classes that I took, but for normal semester classes I was allowed to overload (22 this semester) without paying any extra for tuition.

Really? That's awesome... I've always been under the impression that colleges benched you at so many hours (half-time, full-time, ect) and made you pay for the level you're at.
