When looking at the picket fence, I can tell that the mesiolingual cusp of the max. 1st molar is occluding in the central fossa of the mandibular first molar. I have a slide that says that the mesiofacial cusp of the max. 1st molar occludes in the mesiofacial groove of the mandibular first molar. Is it possible to discern this on the picket fence? I'm somewhat confused on my orientation on the fence.

I usually just put a line on the MB groove and noted to myself that that’s where the Maxillary MB cusp occludes. It’s an extra step but it’s really helpful as that concept comes up a lot in occlusion.

The mesiobuccal cusp of max 1M is supposed to lie in the buccal groove of the mand 1M. This is a huge detail that you will use when classifying malocclusions.
