OCHEM II over summer?`

What is everybody's thought about taking OCHEM II over the summer... The course is from July 2-August 4 and is monday-friday for 2 hours a day?

should be fine. The everday shcedule forces you to keep up with studying and doesnt give you time to push it aside. If you study daily, it will be easy. If not, you will get behind very fast...

definitely doable, assuming you kicked ass in orgo 1 and pretty good at memorizing things without much reasons. i have taken nearly all my sci courses during summers, and got all As.

Go for it! I took it last summer and thought that the workload was totally manageable. Just make sure you can devote a fair amount of time to it...It's hard to catch up if you fall behind.

I took both O chem's during the summer (4 weeks each) and I would recommend it to anyone. My class was from 8-10 M-F. I would go to class, then go home, flip through my notes and grab some lunch. I would then go to a coffee shop and read my text and do all the assigned problems for the section we covered that day. We also had online quizzes, so I would go home and work on those and then repeat everything the next day. I made A's so it paid off.

I agree with Predoctalk in that it forces you to look at it everyday and doesn't give you time to get behind. If it's the ONLY thing you're gonna do for those 4 weeks and you take it serious, then you'll do fine.

im taking chem 2 this summer. I hope i get an A. Its going to suck tho since at my school its 6 hours a day 4 days a week 8 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies, I think if I do well in orgo I I will take orgo II over summer. My next question is to the people who have taken the DAT. How heavy is orgo II in the DAT. I feel if I take orgo II in a condense class I wont get as much out of it

somebody that took Org II more recent can probably answer this more precisely... but in my opinion, the DAT is a little more heavy on Org I (~60%). But the Org II that is tested is not the difficult stuff (a lot of aromaticity, EAS, etc; obviously no ridiculous mechanisms).

I took both Ochems over the summer all while studying for the DAT throughout the 6 weeks of Ochem I in the first session(only studied for the DAT for those 6 weeks).

I took the DAT The second day into Ochem II, so i pretty much "didnt take it" for the DAT. I did fine.

Most of the stuff you need to know from Ochem II is reactions, which you will be exposed to in prep material.
