when you name alkanes with multiple substituents, i understand we should give alphebatical order like ethyl before methyl, but what about ethyl vs dimethyl vs isopropyl. do we take prefixes into account?

di, tri etc. dont count when alphabetizing but iso, tert, etc DO MATTER when alphabetizing

Iso IS counted in alphabetization because it is considered part of the name, not a prefix, while sec-, tert-, neo- etc. are prefixes and are not considered in alphabetization. Also, di-, tri, tetra- are also prefixes and are not considered in alphabetization.

I agree with the crowd, that prefixes never come into play
