what is pyr? and what is its role in reactions when present by itself? i tried searching it on the web but cant find anything about it. can somebody please help me out? thanks!

pyridine. It is a weak base

you usually see it in reactions in which a strong acid would form, it acts as a base to remove a proton, instead of generated Cl- or Br- acting as a base (if they acted as bases HCl or HBr would form)
