Why cant A be true?

if sol A had pH= 3 and sol B and pH=9 then is solA 3 times more acidic than B?

its because every unit of pH is a unit of 10 for concentration. does that make sense?

+1; pH is logarithmic. a pH increment of 1 designates a 10fold increase or decrease in H+ concentration. For example in your question solution at pH 3 is actually a million times (10^6) more acidic than the solution at pH 9.
