Okay,,,so i really want to know how did you guys study for this class...cause I thought I was ready for my test and I feel like i just bomb it !! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRR it is okay cause I get to drop one of the test but I need to make sure the next 4 are stellar,,,,let me know!

My prof put up practice exams. Also, I did almost all of the problems he assigned and tried to stay on top of the readings (one of the few college classes where I actually did the reading) and read my notes.

Yep, do practice exams, practice problems, and really get to know the concepts so that new kinds of problems are do-able. I know that's easier said than done, but you just gotta bend over and take it sometimes when it comes to o-chem. 👍

Hey do you know where I can get some practice exams? My teacher doesnt have any...thanks!

i would just check university ochem websites for old exams. I'm definitely with you on taking orgo exams though. we had our first one of the semester tonight as well. How many chapters do you guys cover on the exam? Five Orgo exams in a semester just seems like a lot.

here's the website from my school: (click on exam format for old exams)

today it was on NMR and Ether........we have 5 tests as well hey maybe we can be SDN study partners 🙂

Words from a medical school professor on how he did well in ochem:

"I hid underneath the table in the professor's office and waited until everyone went home for the night and got a hold of the test."

..of course now that there's security cam's everywhere.. I doubt you can do that anymore.. so just study and keep re-writing things out until you know 'em cold.

lol yeah i guess that would be kind of hard....also my prof. room is sooo small 🙂

keep practicing...organic chem is all about practice. fill up the boards with the reactions and structures cuz u have to drill that into ur head.

make the best investment of your life, buy a dry erase board

lol funny thing you mention that...I have a portable one I bring with me all the time...only thing is I couldnt find it the night I was studying for the exam...Then right afterwards..what do you know BAME 🙂 right in my trunk.

not to repeat, but it's so true, practice practice practice. that's the only thing to do. i would send you the link to my uni's site cause all our practice exams for the sem. are posted, but you need your ID to log into it.

if i knew how to copy and paste the exams, i would, only they open with Adobe Acrobat reader, and so i can't copy it. if anyone knows how, i'd be more than happy to help you out. but i could only get hte second sem. of orgo, my first sem. prof took hers down already.

I had my first Ochem test. I think Ochem is alot better than Gen Chem 1 and 2. Its more interesting in my opinion. All you have to do is practice ALOT. Hope you made a good grade. 🙂

I really like the Magna Doodle I bought for drilling ochem rxns and structures and what not. 🙂

try getting some sidewalk chalk. that way, even if a reaction doesnt work out, u can scare the crap out of neighborhood kids by having all the structures on the cement.

leave it to aamc to somehow find a way to put an electrostatic problem about that on the mcat

in my mass media class, we had to bring in an object that represented us, but it couldn't have our name or picture in it, i was going to bring in an organic molecule. does that mean that organic is invading my life?? i ended up bringing in a reflex tester instead. it stood as a symbol of hte sacrifices i'd have to make, or some other BS like that. anyways, i know that has nothing to do with tests, but someone mentioned structures.

Isn't that kind of small?? I wonder if they make different sizes.

hey music im in second semester so that would be great if you could do that hmmm maybe print and scan????

hehe i dont think kids around my area would get scared of reactions...more like would be high and saying "man look at the colors, dude do you think that is a way to make THC?" "Lets try it out man."

Anyone else have some sites I can use?

I'm still in first semester but here's the link for my school's second semester. I'll warn ya that the exams this prof uses are pretty complex, the other profs aren't quite as tough on their exams and actually teach better IMHO so you leave knowing what you need to know, but you can check out the powerpoint presentations of the lecture notes, old and new exams (once they've had them), and the concept tests (which are in class multiple choice daily quizzes) once they are finished with a chapter. We use Carey's text so if you don't use that one you may have to search around a bit for the info you need. And if any topic is missing click on the Chem dept link, go to current courses, and click on Organic I, you'll probably find it there 🙂

Good luck!

It's probably around 8x12...the same size as a sheet of paper as far as writing space goes. It's good because my apartment used to just get covered in sheets of paper around exam time because i'd write rxns, toss the paper, continue. The magna doodle eliminates that. 🙂 It was like 9 bucks at Target....and they've improved the pen since back when I had one as a kid! 😀

thanks! for all your guys help im hopeing everything goes up hill from here

I think ochem gets better as you go. It wasn't until the end of my first quarter of ochem...the night before the final; that things FINALLY started to click for me. I think it takes some time to grasp the general concepts of how mechanisms work. Once you understand how electrons move around and what not things get so much better. Needless to say, I'm doing a lot better in quarter numero 2 of ochem 😀

As an aside, Kaplan has a book called Organic Chemistry Edge. I found it to be great for the beginning ochem student. It did a lot better job than I thought my text did of explaining the basic concepts behing rxn mechanisms. Also had some good practice probs.

Good luck!! 🙂

thanks kwooder btw what does your little picture say next to the alien 🙂

Huh, that's funny cuz it was drawn on my dry erase board. I didn't think of that. It says:

Life can be very simple
And you can ride along
Life can be very beautiful
A little more like song
