Are there any current or past residents that can comment on the clinical training at Ochsner in New Orleans? It seems like a very nice program with good leadership. The residents are taken care of and very happy and get good fellowships of their choice. Just wondering if it is TOO cush or if graduates feel ready to practice after graduating. Any input is appreciated as I am trying to place it on my ROL. Thanks.

Agreed that the residents and faculty seemed pretty great....but I'm also definitely wondering about the 'too cush' question.

I'm in private practice in New Orleans.
Although I did my residency at Tulane, I can tell you Ochsner is a solid program with a diverse case load, more than adequate volume, and great attendings.
One of my attending mentors during my residency who was instrumental in developing me into the anesthesiologist I am today, Mack Thomas MD,is now at Ochsner, albeit part time. I keep in touch with him...such a wealth of skill and knowledge... I've called him a few times in the last cuppla years about difficult cases and he's been gracious enough to come help me on his days off a few times!!
I encourage you to seek Dr Thomas out if you have questions about the residency there. He is a great man, a great teacher, and a great anesthesiologist.
