Does anyone know when OCPM starts in August for first year students? I heard it is August 24 but need to know if that is right. Thanks!

a little. I am excited to live there because rent is a lot cheaper there than where I am in Utah right now. I have been going to clevelandrents.com and they have some pretty good places. If you know of anything else good let me know. For the most part I don't have a clue though.

What made you guys choose OCPM? I was recently accepted there. Still have an interview to go to at DMU then I will have to decide. Are you from Ohio or the midwest? Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I am actually from Arizona so OCPM is not exactly close for me. I chose OCPM mainly because of the faculty of the school. They are so awesome and helpful and I feel that I connect with them more so than with any other school. Also, this might not apply to you but I feel that Cleveland is the best place to raise my family. However, DMU also rocks! I would definately check it out because it is a great school. Agreeing with previous posts, OCPM is not a top three school while DMU is one of the best. However, i still feel that cleveland is the place for me and that OCPM is the best for me. Also, their new building totally rocks! For me its mostly location so you might want to ask the other guy for why he chose it.

hey, word of advice. the housing packets are not as good as they seem. it seems that about 20-30 of our students who went to the housing fair and got the packets were very disappointed, and i mean very dissapointed. the school is also moving to independance next year and living downtown might not be the best idea. Actually all the current first years are moving south of the city and out to be closer to the school, so that would be some very good advice. my move was horrible and i ended up losing my deposit on my place because i just wasnt gonna move in that crap hole and so i stayed in a hotel till i found something nice. Here is the Advice that i would take to the bank if i were a incomming first year from a current first year. I live in North Royalton, it is 7 or so miles from the school and is a clean, nice, quiet, family oriented suburb. there are three other suburbs that neighbor it and they are Strongsville, with a few options, nice and clean; north royalton, the cheepest but still nice with many choices; Broadview, very nice, same as others, and Brecksville. these are all three or so miles to the interstate and another three miles south to the school. (interstate 77) i know this is a sort of a rant but i had a bad experience with a bunch of other people and when it was taken to student affairs, although great people, they did nouthing but abunch of talk. to if you have any ????'s just message me and i;ll give you my phone number to talk if you have any questions and such. this goes for any ocpm incommings...

the packet they gave me was for the area around independence (not downtown) so i will check it out. im pretty familiar with the area anyway but I want to find the best location near the new school. thanks though.

the paket definately has some **** in it. i went through it all, and am not too impressed with about half of the selections. i agree that looking around the net on some of those sites mentioned in the housing packet is good thing. mme27, what part of utah are you in?? are you finishing up school, or what?? at what point do you start making calls or visiting and securing a place to stay?? thanks!!

I duno what you mean by **** in the housing packet for OCPM. I mean the apartments they picked out aren't exactly 5 star or 10 thumbs up, but they are places to live! And they seem relatively inexpensive too. Granted they aren't as upscale as what you might find towards downtown Cleveland, but at least they don't cost as much as it does to live in Philly or NYC or Miami. Most seemed to be in the 500-600 price range, if I remember correctly. The school also said they would work with people who cant find anything off of the packet (thats what they said at my interview, so who knows).

some appartments in downtown cleveland can get a little pricy for sure - so it comes down to your taste, comfort level, and willingness to spend. The appartments recommended by student affairs are usually previously recommended by current and graduating students - so they are not random places by all means. The price ranges are definitiely very affordable - and as you said, ALOT cheaper than alot of large cities.

don't get me wrong--there are some decent places in there. some just seemed a little wierd. o well, just like you said, the prices in cleveland definately do beat miami, san fran, new york, etc...

For any of you that have time, I would suggest going around the areas and finiding what suits you the best. I've noticed that most of the places that they have suggested are in Parma. It's not a bad place, but I definitely like the Strongsville/North Royalton/Broadview Heights area better. Just my thought on it.

For those having any difficulty finding a decent place to live if you are coming to OCPM, a great website that hs helped a lot of students is www.cleveland.com. Since the school is moving you can look up Independence, Ohio, Parma, Ohio, Broadview Heights, Ohio, Seven Hills, Ohio, North Royalton, Ohio, and other surrounding areas on this site. Also go to a search engine and type in "Independence, Ohio".
Downtown is really not the greatest area to live if you have not discovered that on your own already. Sure the highway is right there, but the apartments in the area are very expensive. Plus parking can be a little pricee too. Remember though it is about what you are most comfortable with. What might be right for one person, may be completely undesirable for another.
Most schools will even let you know about the area you are considering. So call their admissions office and inquire in case you are unable to look for yourself being out of town or what not.
